on the Street KA Fitted some new spark plugs which fixed the tip in stumble, new wiper blades and today the new Control arm which went easily enough. Also found the probable cause of the driveline noise, It appears the brake hose brackets on the struts are not right and both hoses rub on the inside of the wheel, #!×£ing pattern parts, the brackets are fairly thin and easy enough to bend / twist to give some clearance but needs 2 brake hoses before it can go back to my daughter now (the touch is at thd very yop of the wheel, MOT man missed it to). I did check and the pipes and nuts look perfect and turn easily, so hopefullly easy enough when the hoses turn up The Range Rover ECM is on its way back to the supplier and we will be going on holiday in it soon, so next step is to clean it up, change the oil and give it a quick once over, if we have to go on the original ECM it won't be too much of a hardship, with the revamoed injectors it's much smoother using less fuel and requires less throttle tk maintain motorway speeds. The later is a bit of a problem though because the thottle is now uncomfortable on long journies, might see if I can add some sort of right foot rest.

been on holiday in the Range Rover, plan was a week in the Norfolk Broads with the in laws. Great drive there, doing low 20's tp the gallon, then on the Sunday father in law had a stroke, so the next 3 days were spent goimg to and from Norfolk and Norwich hodpital (don't know what the health minister is on about they were brilliant and far from broken). This hit the fuel consumption but the car was faultless and over the 400 miles it averaged 19mpg, which I am more tha. pleased with and is about 4mpg better than it's managed in the past. So what have I learnt?
Firstly with a more stable idle the oil light barely flckers at idle now, might change the big ends as a precaution though because it starts so quickly now you get a second or 2 of big end rattle on start up.
Secondly it's comfortable cruising speed is around 60, but it really needs cruise control on a longer journey, I have all the parts from an early 90's Ford Scorpio (Hella vacuum system). but I need a wiring diagram, anyone got one?
Plans for this week. with everything going on I won't have much time but I will get the brake hoses fitted to the Street Ka and we plan to go away for a few days in the Mazda soon so that needs a quick check over.

brake hoses fittd to KA with no problems, appart from rattles from the folded hood(it has the hardtop fitted) it drives very nicely now.
Repaired ECM for the Range Rover arrived from Tornado, all running on 8 cylinders now, so far seems very good, idle speed is up from 800 rpm to 1100 so that will need adjusting, much more torque at idle, rpm barely drops when I engage drive, used to lose 300rpm and it feels like there is considerably more torque. The test will be a cold start, the old one was awfull for the first 30 seconds, massively rich with clouds of fuel smoke. If that goes well the next step tornado recommend is a increase in timing advance, which should improve things further.

Range Rover started like any other modern fuel injected car this morning, no clouds of smoke picked up OK etc. just need to bolt the ECM in at some point but that seems fixed.

not much time, started fitting a new bathroom at the nieces, the roof is half done on the Porch and the Electrician fitting a new fuse box at my daughter's was very happy with the circuits I had rewired but condemed the remaining original wiring in the Kitchen. (he's quite right when we ripped the floor boards up there's old rubber stuff in there), so I've got to run surface conduit and sockets/wiring around to replace it before he comes back on Tuesday. (kitchen's going next year hence why I hadn't looked at it). on the car front the Range Rover is getting a lot of use, fuel consumtion is much better with the new ECU, not measured it but its got to be on the high teens. Did have one issue the drivers window packed up, the channel on the bottom of the glass had rusted away and dropped off. Found a piece of small box section and cut one side out, cut the OK roller channels off the old one and welded them to the box section. then glued it to the bottom of the glass with PU and it works a treat, still need to hoover the rust fakes out of the bottom of the door and re-fit the trim hopefully over the weekend.

pic of it all assembled and the roller tracks greased up. I kept the rubber to make sure there were no stress raisers on the glass and used PU on both sides, all seems to work a treat. Did some minor repairs on the door trim (stuck a couple of loose bits back with hot melt) and put it all back together, all seems to work fine. Also got the re-wiring done at the daughters on saturday ready for the Electrician on Tuedsay. (old rubbber wire dissapeared into the wall and came out as PVC so there are joins burried somewhere in the plaster) And today I framed out most of the false walls to hide pipes etc (until I ran out of CLS) in the Nieces bathroom and laid the pipes in for the towel rail. I'll be tiling the floor on Wednesday.
