I see this around a lot but never manage to get a photo - until now... Seems to be someones' work van. Cool. Someone night-miopic perhaps. here's a Camper and here's an even camper van. looks like a cabin on wheels. Thought it would have a few fans here though nice BM Baja bug gets around. Love the paint job. very "of an era". I could remember what this style was called right up until the moment I started typing this sentense. MAAAAAAARRRGGGHHH! Just another day on Nottingham's roads... Another working vehicle. And a non-working Mini (apparently) Non-retro but I need to know the paint name and colour code for this pearly blue Fiat, its an OE colour. That is all.

Nice spotting. Is that a Commer Cob? Never seen one of those IRL.

I believe it is. Although there was a Hillman badged van version as well, I think. Awaits one of the Imp fetishists to confirm...

Awaits one of the Imp fetishists to confirm... You called? Commer Cob was the export name for this beastie, in the UK it was a Hillman Imp Van as opposed to the Hillman Husky which had the same pressings but factory fitted rear windows. Of course, there's also the Restall conversion which turned a Van into an estate car, easily distinguished by the non-sliding windows... Err, oh, is that my coat? Thank you... Graham

Sorry to correct, Graham.... The original Imp Van was badged Commer from 1966 to 1968, when Chrysler (gawd bless em) ditched the Commer name and badged them up as Hillmans. There were other subtle differences in badging, upholstery and trim but essentially they stayed the same. The Restall Imp Estate could be badged as a Commer or Hillman depending on the base model. The Husky was the factory estate and had, as Graham says, sliding windows and a few a other trim differences. Cool spot that one - its years since I've seen an Imp Van working for a living. Good on him!

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.

No worries Tim... I just checked in a book and apparently they weren't Commers abroad either, they were Sunbeam Imp Vans... and they were Commer Imps and not Commer Cobs... if you were brave enough you could go on Mastermind with your specialist subject being Imp make and model names...

On the subject of Commer badged Imp vans, if any of you Imp fans are going to Santa Pod on Saturday you should take a diversion via Higham Ferrers and check this out... At a garage at the top end of town on the road running down to the A45, looks to be quite freshly done. I saw it only last weekend.
