Hi all,
I have for sale my lovely Nightfire Red Rover 820 Sterling. It's 16 feet of two door barge that's comfy and warm.
I bought this car as a stop gap to see me through until I bought something sensible for work, and I've finally got time to start looking for "the sensible one".
Its the two door coupe. It has very comfortable cream leather seats (electric, heated), A/C that works as far as I can tell, Power steering, ABS and a (broken) CD changer. The clutch failed on me a few weeks ago; I took it to a clutch centre and they changed the slave cylinder. They then proceeded to inform me that they couldn't bleed it. I asked them to pressure bleed the system and they still couldn't get any pressure.
Then they told me they'd have to change the master. A master cylinder is £172 and change. I told them where to go, bought a seal kit for a tenner and rebuilt it. It works fine now, and will for a long time more. It also has a number of receipts for work done previous to my ownership.
There are a few things wrong with the car, as you would expect from a car of this age.
Body work:
Dent in N/S front wing, doesn't interfere with the wheel at all.
Small dent in N/S door. (they are quite large doors, and it looks as if someone has forgotten this and opened it onto a rock or small wall etc).
Door Bottom Plastic Trim held on with tape. MOT station were happy with it, it doesn't worry me.
Couple of small stone chips etc on the bonnet.
Interior:
Piping cracked on driver's seat
Mats don't have the little clips that hold them to the main carpet (which is very plush and a great shade of burgundy)
The fascias and centre console rattle.
The passenger door doesn't unlock on the button. Works (opens and closes) otherwise.
Suspension:
MOT station picked up that the top wishbone (O/S/F) knocks. These are almost consumable on this type of car, but again, they were happy with it. There is a spare in the boot.
Electrics:
The sunroof does this thing were it shuts all the wall, gets confused and thinks it's trapped someone's finger, and opens again. I'm sure it just needs resetting, but I have found that it still closes if you shut it in steps (i.e. by holding the button down, instead of just pressing it).
I don't know if this is a fault or some "quirk" built in by Rover, but if you have the lights on and switch the car off, you can't turn the lights off. You have to turn the key until the electrics come on, turn the lights off, and then turn the car back off again.
The windows have an intermittent fault similar to the sunroof.
CD changer doesn't work. I have investigated it and I think I've found a diode in it that needs replacing, but I haven't had the time to fix it. I also quite like the number or tapes I've got now.
Header Tank:
Rover 820 header tanks are a)prone to failure & b) rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony manure. I have changed it for a Volvo one in accordance to a thread I read from Australia I think. There have been no problems with it so far.
This is the fullest account I can muster. If anyone has any other questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.
It doesn't need another MOT until the end of June/start of July 2016.
Let me know what you think
All the best
