Hello I'm new to this forum but this is my Ford Orion that I bought yesterday. It's a 1.6 Ghia & has done 82k & only had 2 previous owners. I bought it from St Albans in Hertfordshire & apart from the fan not cutting in it drives great. It's a bit crusty along the bottom of the doors & on the sills but it's nothing major & it's in suprisingly good nick for a nearly 30 year old Ford. It's by no means perfect but I love it, I'm currently working towards my full car test & should have my test coming up soon & when I pass this will be my daily driver. Thanks for looking.

On the way back it got a little hot as the fan isn't cutting in, I think it's the switch but I'll be testing it tomorrow. At this point an Irish chap came & asked us if we wanted to buy a telly, a Samsung & cheap so he reckons. I said no & he then went on to ask me if I wanted to sell the Orion ha ha Can't blame him for trying I guess.

Thank you, this is the first one I've had but I grew up around cars like this. My dad had several Orions & loads of Escorts.

I do like an Orion.
One of our more dopey drivers, this very year, was asked at a motorway services if he would like to buy a TV, he was shown a beauty, the dingbat only went and handed over the cash for his amazing TV. He was given a brand new one in a box, he watch's his 42" piece of wood all the time, he of course tried to keep his purchase quiet.....

Lovely, I wanted one of these in my early driving years but the insurance was a bit too high. (A couple of hundred pounds, by today's standard a bargain lol)

The insurance isn't too bad on this for me, I've added my dad as a named driver because it has dropped the premium a little & my dad really likes this car & until I pass my test he will use it from time to time. He's got a 96 BMW 318 Compact himself & my mrs has a 5 door Civic. I love all 3 of these cars but naturally the Onion is my favourite.

I'd keep the above quiet if I were you . However, it's great to see the MkIII/IV Escorts and MkI/II Orions getting some love these days. Have fun, you should enjoy it. If it's not been run for a while I would change the cambelt ASAP. They were known for snapping on these cars before the interval (36k or 3 years) and they are not too awkward to do either. It's one of the cars which gave cambelts their reputation for being bad TBH! I'd also check the MOTs ; My dad's '89 XR3i did 59,000 miles (sorry, 159,000 miles), my cabrio of the same year did 156,000 miles, however they do not show the 6th digit. My RST "may" have done 63k but the MOTs only go back to 1996 where it says the car had done 25k back then.

That's almost identical to my old Orion! It was a 1.6 carb ghia in that same blue. It's a great colour.

I am ordering a cambelt kit & a service kit this week. I work in a car parts supplier which comes in handy but thanks for the advice, I agree about the belt not worth the risk.

That looks like a cracking Orion. I had a B reg 1.6GL and an H reg Orion Equipe and although I really liked them, I always liked the 1.6i Ghia. My Orion Equipe was a little 1.4 special edition with the later Ghia interior and equipment. It also came with a neat little rear spoiler. The 1.4 always had a bad name compared to the 1.3 and 1.6 but it seemed ok to me (no where near my XR3i but I didn't expect it to be). I put on some nice alloys as it had trims, still have them somewhere actually! Are you going to put the PepperPots back on?

ah, just noticed yours isn't the Injection version - still nice though. Look for the original XR3 carb as it gives them a bit more go. I also believe, although I stand to be corrected, that the Injection exhaust is less restrictive

I've got some 15 inch multi spoke alloys that my dad gave me that should be going on it. I need some tyres for them first & some alloy wheel bolts.

Haven't updated for a while but I passed my driving test back in January & have been using the Onion most days since. The cheapo wheel trims fell apart when I removed them to do the tyre pressures so I ran without them for a bit. I managed to get some period ford wheel trims which will do for now but I really want some alloys. Hopefully I will post some more interesting updates this year as funds & time permit.

I managed to get two of these wheel trims off of ebay which someone has painted white (I will paint them silver when the weather is nice) Also got another pair off a local chap I know who had them gathering dust in his garage so he gave me them for free which was thoroughly appreciated. As you can see I no longer have the spot lamps as I foolishly took the Onion through the car wash as I was being lazy & one got ripped off. I actually prefer it without them but I would have rather removed them myself instead of the car wash but you live & learn. It will teach me to not be so lazy & wash it myself.
