I'm off to view one tonight, maybe. Its the Wolesley Six so thats the transverse 2.2 litre something series with one or two SUs probably.
Apart from rust obviously, what should I be looking for on one of these as a buyer?
Any hard to get parts?
Any reason I should not own one as a daily driver?

They are super tough! Not even that rust prone by 1970's standards, of course check the sills, front panel etc for shonky repairs. I think the weakest point is the gearbox and clutch, spesh on the 6-cyl, I believe like the maxi they are a bit prone to getting oil on the clutch, and check for noisy idler gears (engine on top of gearbox like a mini). Also check the hydrolastic is pumped up and level, its a right pain in the azz to keep on top of if it has a little 'weep'. Also check that its not sounding tappety, they are not big fans of unleaded pez, having said that not many get used as motorway bashers nowadays do they, so its not a big problem.
When you go for a test razz, give it some welly round the bends! You will be amazed at how they handle, they are remarkably fast across country, even it the 0-60 is nowt special. After your mobile Akku waterbeds you will think you are in some sort of caterham R500 or something. I absolutley love em! I have never driven a 6-cyl, only a few 1800's.

I did a Buyers Guide on these not long ago - Landcrab Owners Club International are very helpful.
Not driven a six pot either but they are apparently very smooth and don't drink much more fuel than a twin-carb four. They don't like unleaded but they do unleaded heads for MGBs which presumably fit a Landcrab (only four pot though).
Displacers are hard to find now but Earlpart in Derby are a good source of spares.

It's true...these things are as tough as old boots, especially in the body department. I read somewhere that the bodyshells were three times as torsionally rigid as Fords from the same era. That, plus the 'wheel at each corner' layout (and the 'On The Buses' driving position)means that they deserve their 'Big Mini' nickname.
As xbollox says, the weak spots are the gearbox/clutch and the fact that they don't like unleaded. A mate had one and he reckoned cooling was marginal, but as long as the lecky fan works you should be fine. Don't forget these things were used by everyone and his dog in the 70's to pull caravans, speaks volumes for their reputation as tough, roomy, practical Brit saloons.

Cheers fellas
So buy bulk in Castrol Valvemaster, watch the clutch doesn't slip and that she sits level.
Who was it made their own hydrospastic pump up tool? Was it Slater or Balderdash?
I've driven the ADO16 years ago so am expecting a similar "Oh! was that a speed hump???" ride quality and FWD "precission" although this one has PAS.
Em has made no objections to it in principal. She may refuse to wear the blonde wave wig I have for her to fil in the "June" role in my suburban sitcom fantasy... I'll not mention that just yet...

That's right; the first 'production' vehicle to beat it on body rigidity was the Rover 75! I had a white M reg Austin 1800 a couple of years - it really is like driving a big, slow, Mini Cooper

You can buy em new, theres usually a couple on the bay for 170 or 250 depending on whether you get the one with the vacuum option, alternatively there is some geezer advertisies in the back of PC, he sells a basic non-vacuum one for about 90 notes I thihk.

I think it was Slater who built one and it's somewhere in his Metro Readers Ride thread. Kinda like a big lever attached to a brake master cylinder if memory serves me right.
I would like photographic evidence of the Terry and June moment please AK
Good luck!
PS, I'm sure Johnno could give you some advice on these Wolcrabs!

The DIY pump I used was nothing more than a grease gun with the correct connector on it. Worked a treat.

Yeah for top-ups you just need a thing like a grease gun, just a pump really.
But if you want to re-inflate the suspension after opening it up, you need one with a vacuum facility, this will suck the air out and allow you to replace it with fluid supposedly, thus avoiding having air trapped in the system. I am not sure what the effect is (if any) of ignoring that, and just pressurising the system with a bit of air in it anyway. Probably nowt.... a slightly bouncier ride at worst..
If the valve is at the highest point in the system, I imagine the vacuum thing becomes a bit unnecessary cos you could just pump it up, then let a bit of fluid out, the air will come out with it..

I was having a look on austin-rover.co.uk and the dashboard doesn't half look far away! Can you reach everything with a seat belt on, or are you familiar with sliding sideways a bit from the diagonal strap , flicking the screen demist and then sliding back? Cos that sort of thing scares normal people

My dad had an 1800 from new - between 1971 and 1982 him and my mum put 120,000 miles on it with no major mechanical failures. A friend put another 40,000 miles on it before it bit the dust. Probably the most reliable FWD car ever BMC/BL ever built.
P.S didn't Terry drive a Princess? never seen him in an landcrab!
