Yeah a few people have been saying the same thing paul Y it's really hard to get a photo of it straight on as the clean room (engine heaven) sticks out so you can't get any further towards the back of the car with a few steps back. But, the wheel centre is pretty bang on. Once it's on all 4's I will roll it out, re measure everything and draw some centre lines on the body before mounting it. It's annoying I can't get a good photo of it. It may well be out slightly... Hmmm When I stand there and look at it, it's fine. But looks terrible in photos.... Hmmm *chin scratcher*

Pictures do not always tell the whole truth so will wait to see it on the floor at a better angle. However... I will have to dig it out but have a picture of a 31, channeled with stock height roof, where the wheel base was stretched and it looked quite cool. Cartoony in a sort of Ed Roth way... You have my full approval now that you have the correct amount of pedals... Carry on. P.

So, it turns out the wheel wasn't quite centred... As kind of expected. So the end of the subframe gets lopped off (that was going to happen soon or later anyway) and the body slid back about an inch-ish. The hub centre is now in the centre of the arch. So body up to make room for some chopping: Chop: Ta Da! Photos taken from inside the engine room to get a better angle... Now it makes sense there is a window in there. And then from an almost 3/4 angle: Looks much happier now. In preparation for some tubing arriving (hopefully today/tomorrow) the start of the body supports begins. There will be a tube hoop that will run up and over following the lines of the B pillar, along with many other supports.... Some quick outriggers tacked in place: Both sides: Then as they were lying around, popped the wheel tubs in: Now these will need to be trimmed a little but gives you an idea of what the finishing on the rear might look like: This is how she sits at the moment. Hopefully if the materials arrive there will be some roll cage/body mount action hitting it up Friday night or early next week depending on how things play out.

TUBBBBBBBBBE! Lots of tube! After deciding not to turn the workshop in to a strip club it was play time! A Few simple measurements: A little piece of software later: It was time to get bending! A few more bends.... Part 1 was complete! Now to get it inside the body and offer it up to the chassis and sehll: What do ya think? Tight enough fit? Pretty damn happy with that! The idea is to have the cage as tight to the body as possible as it's also acting as a frame for the body along with the usual outriggers. Now to begin to tie it in to the rear and make start to make the rest of the rear end supports and braces which will also have the rear coil overs mounted on them in the end... A rough idea of the shape: Followed by some more bending: Then a little cutting: A little fishmouth cut later we have the rear 1/4 tube lined up nicely with the the B pillar stealth hoop: And that concludes the mock up of side 1. Now to repeat for side two!

Have you considered or do you need to consider the door latch/striker mechanism/plate? I'd expect that to be pretty close to where your tubing is now? But truth be told I know very little about 30ies fords...

I think the doors hinge at the B post, so the tube shouldn't be a problem there Very nice progress tho Ralph, good to see it coming along in leaps and bounds

Hi eurogranada will be using bear claw latches on it, basically where the tube that runs backwards meets the B pillar tube uprights, is pretty much where the latches will be mounted to, but on the opposite side. Rather than trying to bond the latches in to the fibreglass, will use the roll cage to mount them on. It will be a similar story with the A pillar and the door hinges.

A cracking session last night... Side two in and done along with a rear brace and also a brace just under the rear window: All fitting nice and tightly to the body. It's all starting to take shape quite nicely, there was also time to measure up and bend some tube ready for Wednesday when it will get some more attention. Here we have bars for the bulkhead and also a dash bar. Both of which will yet again be nice and tight against the body!

Tube tube glorious tube! Bulkhead bars in, dash bars in, door bars in! So this weekend will see the mock up of a few bits in the interior to get a feel for space. I might try and offer the dash up to see how that fits in and try and plan out lots of other things like ECU placement, battery placement, rear coilover mounts, fuel tank size and location... The list goes on. So I imagine a few solid hours day dreaming, measuring and making notes. I have a really solid foundation now for moving forwards. The next major piece of the puzzle will be the front end, now the Mustang ii uprights and spindles have arrived it should be full steam ahead for this too!

Had a full day of sitting and staring at the car on Saturday, going over various ideas and plans with Ron from Insane creations and some friends. Everything is heading in the right direction at the moment. Many cups of coffee sat on a spare wheel staring at the old girl... Wheel hub now nicely centred in the arch. So whilst eyeing the whole thing up, the body is now hanging on the roll cage and it sits very well, it was time to play with some headers. The stock headers nearly fit bang on in the rails: The flanges will need to be lopped off and welded back on at another angle so they clear, but nothing else will need to be modified which is fantastic news. The bends on the drivers side are even spot on for fitting a steering column through! I am pretty chuffed with how the headers look though! There was also a quick play with seating position and some measuring to see what sort of seats we could fit in. Andy (tool maker who makes wonder billet things) has a workshop a few yards away from this one, he just happened to have some Kirkey 'Pro Street Drag' series seats. These fit absolutely spot on and feel really comfortable, so it looks like a set of these will be on order very soon! For now though the temporary seat looks a little like this:

This car is inspiring! Great work on the cage and I'm still really loving the engine and suspension choice. I want one of these projects. Eyes glued to the thread....

looking great so far, the headers on those are very restrictive, it might be worth seeing what else is close in terms of port spacing from the american v8s if time and budget allow

Thanks grenade ! legend, it's hard to find out much info about the headers on these motors (or maybe I have been looking in the wrong places) as most of the BMW lot have these engines in the appropriate vehicles, in which case the space in the engine bay is limited. There are very few after-market options and it seems the general consensus is that they flow quite well? I don't really know, so if you have some info on them I'd love to hear more! I'm not after massive power yet... Yet... The exhaust system is going to be fairly simple anyway so if after a little while on the road I decide to up the power then I will look at other options for exhaust. They aren't the most well supported engines for after-market tuning so any info will be great to have!

i.ebayimg.com/images/g/nUUAAOSw0HVWCUEx/s-l1600.jpgI've not changed them on my V8 bmws but remember looking into it at the time and found a lot of forum chatter about them being bad. Aftermarket stuff looks pretty expensive, so might not be worth bothering there is quite a dent to to clear the steering rack on the image above

Yeah the drivers side is horrific to look at without a steering column in there. Hopefully it will mask some of the bend when it's there. I can imagine that side doesn't flow very well at all haha That pic you posted legend, are they from an E34 motor or a later one? After-market stuff is really pricey on these motors... It's not even worth looking at a set of cams for them.

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that these headers are twin walled and are even worse on the inside than they look. That'll also make them a pain in the to mod.
