Hi
I bought a non-runner seat Ibiza 1.2 2003 from a friend. Replaced the CAT and it runs now but randomly just cuts out from idle and when the accelerator pedal is pushed. Otherwise idle is smooth. Fault codes were cleared relating to cat, no engine light, and no codes have returned.
I've replaced fuel filter and checked intake, removed & cleaned throttle body but it still randomly cuts out. No stutter, just in a moment it's off...
Any ideas my wrenching friends?

Check the wiring for the lambda sensors very carefully, the are prone to corroding and snapping.

What code reader did you use to check and clear your codes with?
If possible I'd get VCDS onto it and see if that surfaces anything. My el cheapo code reader only picks up basic codes that are emissions related. It missed 2 misfire codes from my dad's Mondeo where no lights were present (which Forscan picked up) and an ABS fault with the Clio where the lights only car on very rarely (which again a Snap On diagnostic tool did).
I'd say the TPS is at fault but I'd have thought the car would still run OK. An earth fault is one thing I can think of or poor fuel pressure - just how long was the car not running for?

Not an engine I know but suddenly cut offs are often crankshaft sensor. Most of them are a simple electro-magnet and if they develop a hairline crack that opens up as they warm up they'll suddenly cut out.
Sometimes they won't restart for a few minutes until the sensor cools a bit and the crack closes.
Most of the time they won't throw a code because all the ECU sees is that the engine isn't turning.

As above most cars I see with these symptoms are cps failure when warm .

Thanks guys I'll dig into these tomorrow. I ordered a new throttle body and that's ready to fit also.

Ok it's not throttle body - brand new one and same symptom. CPS is next.

Right for the record it seems like a new crank angle sensor has cured the sudden stalling. Thanks guys
