Cheers! Got to straighten the motor up and tighten everything up for the production of the shafts which will hopefully be soon. Today I tried to wire the motor up temporarily just to check it is a good one. Wired the loom in today and have more questions than when I started. Injector loom, how do I know which plug is for which injector? Also, is the brown white wire earth? Dizzy, where should I be setting it? I've gone TDC on cylinder 1 and the rotor ATM is pointing top left, I have put this as cylinder 1 and gone anticlockwise from here with a firing order I found online. Also, are we earthing the block to the battery for starting purposes?

Have you got the loom plastic tubing? on mine each plug will only reach its respective injector. I can't remember the earth, but I have a feeling it was black. I don't know if that helps, but I think that black wire is the earth. I started mine up with jump leads attached from the engine to start with and then the rest of the wires clipped onto the battery with clothes pegs.

Just so you are going in the right direction, blacks on GM/Vauxhall looms tend to be ignition switched 12v positive - earth's are usually solid brown.
On the plug in the above picture, the big thick red is battery constant 12v +ve , green is the rev counter feed, red/blue is the fuel pump 12v +ve feed and the black will need to be attached to ignition switched 12v +ve.
Earths for the engine are normally from the block via earth straps to the chassis legs, but I always put in some extra wires direct to the -ve post of the battery.

Thanks for the help guys Reason for the hold up on this is due to a recent accident. I was sat stationary on the M5 in a road block when an articulated lorry rear ended me, he fell asleep at the wheel with cruise control on. I am failing to get a spark from the coil, I am unsure if this is ****ty leads or a dead coil. Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can independently test the coil? This way I know if my fault is in the loom or in the coil. I have hooked my fuel pump up, when I live the loom I can hear relays click and the fuel pump prime so I'm guessing everything is connected as it should be.

Could've been worse, I like to think my cage might have put but a bit of resistance, but I doubt it. Funnily enough I ended up talking with an attending officer about the mini (I had my dog with me called Morris, his elder brother is called Cooper) and it turned out he owned a mk1 cortina. Strange how it happens.

Can anyone tell me how they have wired up their starter motor?
I am a bit confused as there are 4 terminals on the starter rather than 3 which is what I am used to. It took a few of us to figure the thing out and I am still took a while to get the thing to crank correctly.
It seems as though one pin is to spin the starter, the other pin is to throw the starter spur out and make contact with the flywheel.
Has any one ever dealt with this before because I am struggling to figure this a little. Am I going to be able to wire both the switched 12V feeds through the same switch? In theory it would seem as though you would want the gear to be thrown out before it starts spinning to avoid it mashing the fly and starter gear to bits.
I have tried searching for a photo but can not seem to find anything. Next time I am at the unit I will get some photos, hopefully it something super simple and figured by then.

Due to still being deemed unable to do anything overly physical due to the continuing issues from the above accident this has resulted in a lot of internet browsing and not so much vehicle building. I started looking at bike conversions, but up the front rather than in the back. There isn't really a lot of home mde conversions out there, but there are quite a few that have been done with premade conversion kits from the likes of Promotive and Lynx. This then got me looking, simply out of interest. There were a lot of people fitting these conversion packages in cars with no body modifications, it fit in the standard mini opening. Problem with these conversions is they are something crazy like £3,000 before you've paid out for the engine, bonkers hey? So i got reading and reserching and reading and found a couple of people who had done home made conversions with a crade. The cradle suspends the engine within the standard subframe. There is also a pretty affordable diff option to boot. So once again I got looking and found a few engines going on ebay, R1 motors seem to start at about £500 as bare engines, but they fit, I then looked at blackbird engines, very affordable at £500 with everything needed, i looked at YZF1000 complete bikes which were quite affordable with some starting at about £500 for complete bikes, problem is i don't know if they fit! Further reading lead me to the Fireblade engine, reading shows they do fit, they arent the most powerful bike engine in the world, but affordable. I had a few in my watching list and i was off boat fishing and my phone went off, item ending in 10 minutes, who would have known miles out at sea you get full 4G coverage. So i wacked a bid in. What was i going to do with it if I won it? Anyway, put a bid in and put my phone on silent until i got back to land. So Yesterday after a 3 hour round trip we have this... Nothing is going to happen with it for a while yet, but got it for a total bargain so thought why not! It will be stashed in the shed until the Vauxhall swap is up, running and on the road. I am hopeful that it can become next winters project.

Unfortunately due to a mixture of unforeseen circumstances, change in direction and other commitments this is going to have to be sold. The Vauxhall conversion will be transferred into my "67 cooper, so this will be sold as a rolling she'll if anyone is interested. Work efforts have been transferred to my "67 cooper and this retrorides.proboards.com/thread/190353/1983-porsche-running-neglected-thing
