After three year's worth of enjoyable road trips time has come for a change, and my 2102 is up for sale.
Bought as a non runner Latvian import looking a bit worse for wear, it has seen a two part resto over the past three years. Initially mechanically then the subsequently full paint and new metal where needed.
It also had a full engine rebuild, new Weber DGAV carb, new brakes all round, new steering box, all ancillaries renewed, plus regular servicing with the car being maintained lovingly with no expense spared! It is nearly 40 years old, so some cosmetic rust has re-appeared around the edges, but overall the car is very presentable, solid, and continues to get constant attention.
Engine - 1200cc, standard rebuilt spec, with a recent new Weber DGAV carb correctly jetted
Suspension - Chopped springs with no rubbing or dislocation issues. Spring assisters at the rear to stiffen it up.
Transmission - Clutch replaced at the time of the resto, gearbox works fine with no issues, no diff whines
Brakes - All good and refurbished at the time of the resto including a new master cylinder
Wheels - Maserati Bi-Turbo 14x6 refurbished in a chrome finish. No flatspots, kerbing or damage.
Electrics - Not very many and all work fine!
Bodywork - Resprayed in original colour, very solid, some cosmetic rust, but still very presentable. One rear arch has some cracking at a repair due to tyre rubbage before the arch was rolled.
Interior - All complete apart from a missing driver's kick panel (supplied) and glovebox interior needs re-fitted (supplied). Riva front seats with headrests, and original rear bench.
Underside - Very solid, recently checked over with a small bit of welding carried out to the front N/S chassis leg. Fully professionally undersealed. Should give another 40 years of service!
Driving - 'A unique driving experience'! Does everything you can expect a car to do, in it's own charming Lada way! Can keep up with modern motorway traffic, you just have to put up with the ride, handling and noise! Very reliable, never had a break down. It's been to three Retro Rides Gatherings, and a trip from Glasgow to London to the Ace Cafe as well as all over the rest of the UK. You'll either love it or hate it! I've enjoyed it so much that I'm even planning to test myself further by downgrading to a Trabant!
Mileage - 78k kilometres, but unknown if first, second or twentieth time around!
MOT - August 26th 2016
Tax - Currently taxed, and will be exempt next year.
£2250 with possible px for a Trabant
