This isn't really retro, but... I was driving my Multipla to work yesterday, and I was stuck behind a bus on the estate. It stopped at a bus stop, and I thought about it, but the gap looked a bit tight for the Multipla, so I waited for the bus to pull away again. The 55 plate Audi A4 behind me took exception to that and drove past me, clunking the back right corner of the Mulitpla and leaving a dent and a scratch down the rear panel onto the back door, before diving through the gap by the bus and off down the road. It left my car rocking on the springs, and me incredulous that someone would do that. I don't think he hit the car opposite me (there was a dent in the wheelarch, but no scraping marks). My Multipla has a dent in most of the panels, so I'm not bothered about recovering repair costs, but it really made me mad. I'm assuming the Audi lives on our estate (it's not a shortcut anywhere), so I could probably find it in about 20 minutes if I look - is it worth the bother, and what would I do if I found it? Cool Multipla pictures for pennance: This one has a Fiat Coupe 20VT engine in it! And of course, the famous Toad: Cheers Duncan

It's classed as "failing to stop". Whilst you might not be bothered what about if it happens again and somebody else's car is damaged. Even a simple "ding" is several hundred pounds of paint work so why should the owner of the Audi get a second chance. Ask yourself how would you feel if it was, say, your first brand new car you had 5 years of finance on or if you were a new driver and your insurance was already horrendous never mind having to claim for a hit & run or if it was a hire car and you lost your deposit or if it was a company car and you got a rollocking from boss, and so on.

Report to the police and suggest they contact the bus company as some buses have CCTv fitted. Its more than failing to stop, its dangerous driving and possibly the driver isn't insured, if the driver has done it to you its salon very likely they have done it before and obviously don't care about any damage or injuries they cause.

It'll be on bus cameras. Report to police as Failure to Stop.

I had something similar happen recently in that my car was parked in my spot, which due to living in flats is public not private. A works van parked next to my car and when pulling out took the front bumper off my car, he didn't leave details and I was in my flat doing what ever else not really watching my car because I shouldn't have to, I'm lucky that someone else spotted it and knocked my door, I went to the company who did it today stating I have a witness and they owe me repairs. I haven't involved the police and hopefully I shouldn't need too. I was unlucky in that my car park also doesn't have CCTV. The company tried to say I couldn't prove it was them without it which is bull because 99% of murders aren't captured on film as you can imagine Last Saturday the van reappeared with clear evidence it was the one who damaged my car, so I just sent photo's over to them with the bits of van they left for me the day it happened. They don't really have a foot to stand on. Busses do have CCTV which may show the car, but these camera's are generally aimed inside the bus rather than in front and behind, you may be lucky, just try to recall the bus number and time it happened. It could end up being a lot of effort/trouble on your behalf considering you aren't pursuing any re-imbursement, if I were you go hell for leather and get everything you can! People should be more careful and truthful!

As others have said, get it reported. Ideally before he decides to do so (unlikely I know) but with a completely different slant on events.

Definately report it, there are a number of reasons why someone may fail to stop including no insurance/drink driving/unlicensed driver etc. don't just let it go.

You should have called the cops immediately but it's still not too late. Go hard and nail them for the protection of others if not for yourself.

Report it. It's not about the damage, however its the attitude.Problem is if the other driver has another accident and then tries to claim it was you. I would tell the insurance company as well, stating you don't want to claim, just covering your glutemus maximus in case.
Mrs had an incident last year where her and another woman traded mirrors. Mirrors are consumables on the narrow roads around here, so no biggy. However, common courtesy dictates you stop and apologise whether it's your fault or not. This woman got right arsey, f'ing and blinding. Great that there was a 12 year old exchange student from Germany in our car at the time. Nice to show visitors how things are done in a civilised country.... Anyway, missus was really upset. I bought a replacement glass for about a tenner and car sorted. Went to the police and reported it as normal people don't react like that. Outcome about 8 months later was registered owner got 6 points on their licence and £800 worth of fine and court fees for failing to divulge who was driving at the time. We all know it was the disqualified daughter. All over a mirror that cost less than a tenner....where sorry would have sufficed.

My VW bus was parked in the street outside my girlfriend's house. We came back to find the headlight and front panel stoved in. We had a good idea it was the next door neighbour (Not nice people - these days they'd be starring on some channel five program or other). I waited for his car to return but it never did. When he came home on foot I went round and asked what happened. He denied anything and shut the door in my face. A couple of days later I spotted the car parked a few streets away with a crunched wing and scrapes of yellow paint off my bus. He'd been leaving it there and walking home. We took some photos of the car and went to the local cop-shop. Officer there said I wouldn't be able to prove he damaged my bus, despite the photos, the damaged car parked about 300 metres from the station and another neighbour who had seen what happened. But he knew who I was talking about (no surprise there) and he would go round and sort it. About an hour later, police officer brings neighbour round to our house who's now all fake apologies but gives me his insurance details.
If you think the car is local, see if you can find it and get the reg. Then report it.

Report it as a fail to stop. Failing to stop is generally more serious than any offence involved in the collision itself.

Report this twonk, these people cost us a fortune in repairs, insurance premiums etc, not to mention the danger to pedestrians as I assume this was at a bus stop.
As said here, if this is the standard of their driving there's a good chance they shouldn't be driving in the first place.

Failure to stop can see them with 5-10 penalty points - so it's not something the CPS take lightly! Be aware that you also have a legal obligation to inform your insurance company (even if you don't claim) which 'could' put your premium up. Whether you do or not is up to you obviously.

I'll have a roll around on my bike and see if I can see the Audi - if I find it then I'll send the community cops an email. I'm not sure exactly what bus it was (number 8, but they are every 5 minutes), and because I was giving it some space, I doubt any camera would have caught the Audi hitting me... The only thing that makes me concerned is that if they're prepared to do that to a car with someone in, and then I report them to the cops, my Porsche is sat on the drive in front of the multipla, and I'd be gutted if that got damaged... Cheers Duncan
