went to beaulieu auto jumble this weekend looking for rare car parts and ended up buying this Raleigh vektar i love the look of this bike but i know nothing about them I'm hoping there are some bike experts on here does this bike share parts with other Raleigh models? the crank is seized solid at the moment so it looks like it needs new bearing also missing a brake lever and stand but these parts might be unique to the vektar? does anyone know where i might get parts for it? any help would be appreciated

i woudlnt worry about the stand but i think its essentially a raleigh burner under all the plastic.
the brake lever looks unique to that but Raleigh used to share parts across models so you may pick one up off another kids bike.
the thing with these primarily are if the circuits are still working, thats what people want mostly from these vektars.

I wanted one of these so bad when I was a kid. A local show off had one in white and it looked awesome in that 80's futuristic style. Does it have radio and sound effects thing?

I remember someone with a white one, maybe it wasn't one of these but it looked similar. Except it had suspension and disc brakes. This was around 1982.

I had 2, red and white Vektars. They were 3 speed bikes. I believe that the black bikes were all single speed, and had the similar mag wheels as on some Raleigh Burners
The frame is different than the Burner. The forks are longer, so the headstocks higher, and there's mounting points for the body work.
The Raleigh Wildcat had a similar frame
There was a special tool to get the electronics open. 2 prongs go into the rectangular holes above the speedo. I got that off with a couple of screwdrivers. Marked up the plastic a bit tho, be careful.
The seat pin is 28.6mm diameter. As used on lots of Raleighs, such as, Twentys, Mk1 Burners, Mk1/2 Choppers. Its a common size for MTB seat pins these days. So you can get longer plain steel and alloy micro adjuster seat pins. If your wanting to run a regular saddle at a reasonable height. Those wide, strange shaped foam saddles aren't good to ride on for long. Oh yeah, the seat clamp size is 31.8mm diameter, another common size on modern bikes.

I wanted a white one of these SO bad!
I could be wrong, but I think these share parts with the Grifter? That's what I had back then and I seem to remember noticing the part sharing. Grifters are just as desireable though so it may be just as hard to find parts for them!

Thats all the cool. I had a Grifter when i was a kid (this was in the mid-late 90's so it was retro then!) I gave it to a mate to restore and have a play with about 5 years ago and it got pinched

I can see its been a year or two since it was the subject of discussion, so if anyone has got bored of their Vektar (white model) and wants to find it a loving home where everything 80's is cherished, please PM me!

i woudlnt worry about the stand but i think its essentially a raleigh burner under all the plastic. the brake lever looks unique to that but Raleigh used to share parts across models so you may pick one up off another kids bike. the thing with these primarily are if the circuits are still working, thats what people want mostly from these vektars. These are nothing like a burner under the plastic. Totally different frame tubing and geometry. They share some similar parts but are a different bike.

He was asking about parts, not the geo of the frame. Raleigh used the same parts over many different bikes. I'm pretty sure it would share lots with the burner. Except for the frame. I doubt that's a part he will be replacing. Not that it even matters any more it was from last year

Bearings are the same but most everything else is different. My friend had one a few years ago and we compared it to my burner. It was top of the page so I didnt look at the date.
