Right, will (surprisingskoda has been, and gone- hope you caught the ferry ok dude!) And I've done my saturday evening shift at work, so you can have an update. Doors eventually off, some bolts came out, some needed the angle grinder to help them out, bonnet is unbolted too, and most of the bolts for fetching the front panels off too.

The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted what will brought up too, Which should give you all a fair idea which direction this nonsense is going to be going

Now, before you all think I've lost the plot, let me explain a few things
The front end of an SJ chassis is almost exactly the same as a willys The springs at the front are in the right place It actually looks like the bulkhead and pedals etc are in the right ish place too (I know the front is too high at the moment, need to get the wings off the sj)
So the plan is a super budget willys pickup, suzuki engine and box for now, replace rear axle with summat with a diff in the middle, 10 bolt, sherpa or cherokee. Front axle will be a straight tube with sherpa hubs and brakes. Cab will be coming together after another tat mission

Right, will (surprisingskoda has been, and gone- hope you caught the ferry ok dude!) To quote a certain phrase, "what we most certainly did not do is drive a hugely overladen large van at almost 90mph for 45 miles to catch a ferry literally by one minute". Good craic today, sorry we had to scarper quick sharp in the end. Will be back over soon.

Bookmarked!
Fires, slightly dubious transport arrangements, body transplants using very sketchy logic - love it already!

YES! Quite jealous that despite numerous rebodying chats I've had with you that you're the one doing it, but mainly envious! There's a chap on here selling rwd xud stuff which even keeps with the suzuki theme but allows for derv based adventures. EDIT: it's sold but do it anyway. Looking forward to this one, please keep up the momentum

The Aussie ones might be a bit different sciclone. Does the Maruti have a 1.0 litre engine like the old SJ410 too? My local dealer reckons that the Suzuki Farmworker he sells is a dead set SJ413. He could be wrong of course. Not surprised that the J parts are better quality. I found the same thing with my Honda when my Gran crashed it and the pirate panel from Taiwan required a bit of cutting and bending to make it fit. I expect the J parts cost more too. Here's the link to the NZ dealer network. www.suzuki.co.nz/Automotive/Farm+Worker/Farm+Worker+Multi+Purpose+4X4/The Maruti Stockman (owned by Suzuki in India, also makes Alto/A-star) we brought in had the 1.0L, but we stopped selling them before I started here (I work for Suzuki HQ in Brisbane). Looks like your ones do have the 1.3L in them, but still, most of the parts would be interchangeable with proper Japanese ones.

Its alright Ian, it all makes perfick sense in my warped brain! Ive been a bit busy trying to make kev and kt towers a bit a bit nicer, but more work has commenced on the suzuki. All of the front end panels ahead of the bulkhead are now off, but of course it didnt go smoothly. On the SJ, the whole front unbolts in one big chunk, so it made sense to do that. On the passenger side, it was no problem, ground the heads off the scungy bolts into the bulkhead, sorted. The front end was no problem either, except the 14mm bolts into the bodymounts just snapped off! But on the drivers side, a great big patch had been welded over some rot around the gas pedal, and this held me up a while. Basically, they had welded an inner patch, outer patch, and welded the back of the battery tray to the bulkhead! So I had to chisel off the outer patch, cut what was left of the bolts and rot away, and then chisel off the battery tray. And then, after all that, there was a little bracket holding the brake hoses on, and an earth strap to take off, and then done! But by then it was dark, so no moar photos, but at least I can see how much of the scuttle I need to chop to get the front end sitting right. Thanks for reading, nearly time to swap the front axle methinks

i know its not what youre doing, but some useful info is than a SJ chassis is pretty much the same width/rail dimensions as a model A, but with the kickup and 5 link. rear axle the same PCD and right width for a fendered car too, so you could chuck the whole lot under the back of a fendered car for a fit and forget setup..... I'm sure you'd be able to pull it off, Dez , but from the technical drawings I have of the SJ413 the dimensions are quite a bit off. Wheel base: SJ413 - 80"" (SWB) - 94" (LWB) 28-31 A: 103.5" Front chassis width: SJ413: 29.25" (at the centre of the rails) 28-31 A: 25.25" (at the outside of the rails) Rear Chassis width SJ413: 40.125" (at outside of body mount tabs) 28-31 A: 42.75" as rear of axle. (I used the westcottsauto drawing for reference on the A). Although if you've got a build I can read, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong. A 4x4 Model A sounds like a fun project.

Picture update time with the front end all removed I could see that some of the bulkhead was going to have to come off too, so a little bit of grinder and hacksaw action gave me this Which means that a little bit more of the scuttle needs to come off, to lower the back end of the flip front down, so thats the next step. Cab sheetmetal will hopefully be picked up in october, so in the mean time its time to dump the driven front axle and prop, but keep the stock steering Oh, and apply for the logbook!

Any good reason not to keep the four wheel drive? Because 'rod, not off-roader Hmm, you may have just invented a new niche car sector - the rod off-roader. Expect them to be badged as BMW X2 and X4!

I like the way this is going i did think that a vitara and a morris minor shell could be combined to form a budget gasser a while back, but I reckon a Sj would be a much better basis

Aye, igor, the reason for binning the 4wd is to make it look like a clone of the gasser war cars of the late 60s, albeit on a budget
Craig, there is a chap local with a morris minor pickup on a swb sj, looks ace!
