This thread made me laugh too! I have a mardi gras td that also spat its guts out its pooper! It wasnt random though i did 1000miles in it with no water in the rad (stone got it!). They have no f*%kin temp gauge how stupid is that! Oh and my water level sensor wasnt working. It even survived a round trip to oxford and back doing 80+...wondered why it felt slower than normal. Interested in what parts you needed for the swap to an XU9 as Xud7's are quite hard to find. The 9's are everywhere. Can you be a^sed to type a part list? with yours being a TD you will just need the XUD9 but you will loose the PAS. I installed a proper temp guage as a matter of course. sit at 85 running goes to 92 the the fans cut in when sat still.

I feel you pain, after having a rather large argument I was sat in my charade for while, I went to start it and forgot I had left my lights on, battery was flat in the middle of no-where so I hit the roof and caved a door in, unfortunately charades are made out of paper and it dented in so much the door skin ripped and I couldn't put my window down! Try finding a replacement for one too! Keep up for good work and let us know how the MOT went! Good, this makes me look very sane and mild mannered.

Good work. What are you gonna do about the intercooler? They don't work great without any air going to them Off to find a £40 XUD9.. Nothing atm, after it has behaved itself for a month or so and I get back from prauge I shall buy a FMIC and weld up an adapter plate/nozzle for the existing fannimold. Then boost goes to 1.25 bar. And I tap the manifold for watermethanol.

Well I thought it was time for an update, I have been mostly enjoying driving the thing, and fighting with the alternator belt tensioner and adjusting the clutch cable but pics pics pics....... Collecting a pizza. So I have been annoyed with the seat for a week. Its adjusted as far forward as it will tilt and I'm practically laying down and it wobbles about all over the place. Then bang as I set it down after tilting it forward it comes out the floor on the front righthand side. I takes it apart and this is what I find: lovely french build quality, So I wop some box section in and bolt it all up. Now whilst investigating the seat I discover this: Its snapped and been welded and snapped again??! Thats pretty curse word. So I put the passenger seat in the drivers and source another seat locally to swap the bottom over. The drivers seat I was originally going to buy had also snapped. Must be a common problem. Are GTI seats any sturdier?

Some random photos. I've been driving about in it rather than taking photos of it. I went to Prague and found this advertising Thai massage. Dunno what it is, Trabant? FSO? Also this Nissan Vanette advertising a Jewish Resteraunt. Syncro I ordered one of these for a landrover 200/300TDi I also have this Mondeo 3 diesel, £11.00 bargain!!! I took it for a jaunt up the back roads today and when I had been ragging it for a while I noticed the coolant temp was upto 95 from its usual 80, I backed off and it settled down. Is this cos my intercooler isn't working (top mount with no airflow) or do I need a bigger rad? I think the rad on it is from a N/A diesel?

yep, heat soak, remember the turbos down the back so they generate heat that flows up, soaks the i.c and it warms the air. fit a fmic and duct cold air onto the turbo. shower duct tube works well and is like 5 quid from b+q

Lol I was in Prague and took a photo of that trabant too I saw a bunch of them
Was on a trip out of Prague to kutna hora and passed a scrappy literally just full of old skodas and trabants too was cool

Are GTi seats any sturdier?
Can't say for definite about the seats, but I sold mine on 144K miles, and the seats felt fine, the floor mounts however, were just the same as yours, the passenger side had already had 2 sections of angle iron bolted into place on the front 2 mounts when I bought the car, and I ended up welding up 3 of the driver's side mounts during my 7 years of ownership!
It's just fatigue cracking as the steel used is so thin.

Well, instead of fannying aboot with much plumbing and stuff I am keeping the top mount as I like the no lag response. I have this.... and a circuit diagram I drew on a napkin.

I have a front mount intercooler on my 309 and it is very laggy, hence why I bought the standard inlet off you so I can return it to non intercooled standard. I keep meaning to get you a photo of how the intercooler is fitted on mine like you asked me too. I'll get round to it!

Yup, devils own and cooling mist want about 300 quid. I picked up the parts for 60. If all goes well I may upgrade the water pump from the 100psi caravan toilet pump I paid 10 quid for.
Before everyone tells me about hydrolocked cylinders and rust. I have invested in a proper water meth nozzle 5 gph and a stop solenoid.
I'm gonna have it kick in a half a bar, as when I run at over 70 I run at about the half bar. (and when I kick it over 70 the temp start to rise over 95).

Are you wanting to keep this a super stealth install dude? You could get a bonnet scoop off of an impreza or any J pickup and get some decent airflow to that intercooler for not alot of pennies(might look slightly chav though).

You could get a bonnet scoop off of an impreza or any J pickup and get some decent airflow to that intercooler for not alot of pennies(might look slightly chav though). I thought about a scoop, but TBH I have never seen one I liked on a 205 they always look chavvy as fook in my eyes. Plus TBH I have been keen on water/meth for a long time. I came very close to fitting it to a Primera 2.2DCi untill the turbo split in half and I fixed and sold it.

I stayed in the PSA group and have an electronic pump off a saxo/106/206 cost me £30 from the scrapper. means I can have it on for town driving and off on the back lanes. You loose the PAS from 7 to 9 because the 7 has a pulley on the end of the cam that drives the vac pump and PAS pump, the 9 just has a vac pump. aaaaaand the 9's power steering pump location fouls the 205s radiator.
