my dad is throwing out his xantia soon, its the turbo 1.9 d with bosch fuel pump and indirect fuel injection, meaning its ideal for running on veg oil. I'm thinking of taking it and running it to save the massive fuel bills ive been running up lately.
so anything that can be done on these? lowering is easily as they have the hydro suspension as standard.
I'm thinking of going satin black all over and taking the hub caps off. and some stencils over it perhaps. maybe a rusty bonnet as well.
anything anyone can think of doing to it?

The suspension lets go higher, but the highest position locks the suspension up solid. the lowest position, isn't for driving on, unless you want to remove the exhaust and sump etc. you might be able to adjust the ride height using the height adjusters, but I'm not sure. Not many rusty bonnets around, in fact i can't remember every seeing a rusty xantia!

Hey I'm hoping to get one as a daily in the future still. really like em but still don't know lots about em. guess the potential depends how creative you wanna be. How about a stripped touring car racer style idea to kick things off?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

satin black or graffiti all over me thinks. Replace "or" with "and" job done! Anyway a Xantia is way better than a bloody Laguna (they for me are the sh!ttest of the sh!t, I know they were a BTCC car but they are curse word)

Is there anyway of making a Xantia ride height consistantly low without putting it in low mode? Like taking the fluid or air out of the system?
Also is there anyway that the system could be modified to allow side to side or front up and back down action?

Thought the front was regular struts.....

No, its hydraulic front and rear. Operates from a plastic lever between a ride height sensor and the anti roll bar. You could modify the mount on the anti roll bar so it would run at a lower height while thinking it was higher but I don't know how well this would handle. It would be difficult to get the front and rear running independant let alone side to side. Not a good idea to run with low fluid as its the same pump and reservoir as the brakes

I have *heard* (not tried) that the height adjuster on Xantia's is a fairly simple thing that just runs in a channel under the car. There are notches that correspond to the various settings inside the car. Allegedly you can simply angle grind a new notch between super-low-only-used-for-changing-wheels and normal-ride-height which would in theory give you a lowered car. Some people do this to increase fuel economy on motorways...
Have fun!

The height corrector is attached to the anti roll bar with a clamp, twisting the clamp adjusts the ride height front and rear are sererate so both ends need to be tweaked. Be warned a fraction of a twist will move the height from right up to right down. Mark the roll bar and clamp before you start. Loosen the 11mm bolt slightly and tap it around using a punch. Loosen it too far and it will go all the way in a heartbeat so be carefull. Adjusting the corectors in this way does not alter the ride as such as the leg pressures are the same as usual just less fluid in them as you're tricking the system.

The only potential it's got is to break down and cost you a fortune to fix. I'm going with run it 'til it dies then scrap it too.

worth getting under it and having a good poke around at the suspension to see what can be done... hydralic or not, you SHOULD be able to do something, although you might end up losing the hydralics. Otherwise, do the equivalent of channelling it, raise the suspension seats UP, therefore DROPPING the body (imagine dropping the hydralics then?!) matt black, slot mags, some graffiti/stencils (white only). Defo worth it.
