Hi, I've just read through this thread and are somewhat relieved that there are others out there and being restored. I've currently got an F20 Taft in storage (whilst I'm doing a full restoration on a Capri) and have come to the realisation I probably won't have time or money to look into rebuilding the Taft afterwards without my girlfriend leaving me! It's currently in a better state than the thread topic was to begin with and has a spare engine and box aswell as various other items.
So firstly is it worth anything? And if so is anyone interested? If not please can people give me some words of encouragement to get it back out and up and running!! Because it's too good to keep hidden away!

Hello & welcome to the forum! It sounds as though you have got your work cut out there.. I hope you're going to post some reports on progress with the Capri, I must say, I've always had a soft spot for those, It's a car my parents both had loads of, but I missed out on owning one myself. Anyhow, to your question..
As far as I'm aware the F20, although being quite a rarity, doesn't seem to fetch much whenever they do go on sale. I've seen a few go on e'bay the last three years (mostly project cars) and struggle to fetch more than £400-600, or thereabouts. To me its a no-brainer, you should keep it! Though if you were to sell it and were after maximum profit, you would easily make more by breaking the car. The obvious down side, there would be one-less in existence.. which would be a little sad.
If you ARE considering breaking.. I've a long list of bits I need.
If not, and you keep it... Good on you!

Hello there. I have just come across this forum and this post . I now own the Diahatsu F20 that previously belonged to Geoff Mills who posted on here with pics of AOD 74T. in 2015. It seems that the next owner was someone in Telford who had it for maybe a year or so. He then sold it to another guy who lives very close to me. He only kept it for about 6 months before I bought it off him. I am trying to trace the history of it which is not easy now the DVLA have stopped giving previous owner information. From the info I have it seems to have lived in Devon from new up to around 2013, then moved to Enfield area for about 1 year before Geoff Mills had it in Warwickshire. If you are still on this forum Geoff could you get in touch or indeed anyone else who has any knowledge about this F20.
I had an F20 in 1978 and had 2 F50's after that. They were all bought in Cornwall / Devon so this one could well have come from the same dealership when new. Great workhorses but rusted like hell.
Hope someone out there can shed some light on this one. Thanks

Morning all I have recently purchased a 1978 TAFT F-20 with the 12R motor. This vehicle was originally purchased from Williams Motor Co (Altrincham) 1st December 1978. I am rebuilding this vehicle and among other things i am desperately looking for a supplier of Brake components . I have managed to download a repair manual however i would like to download a parts manual - does any one have a link for this?

It's been a long time since I posted on this project.
If I remember right, the brake shoes were easy to source, but the drum brake pistons were a nightmare to get. Think I ended up measuring the old ones & getting the nearest thing dimensionally to them. Only needed re-drilling the back plate to make fit.
If I ever get the chance, I'd love to junk both axles setup & upgrade to disc brake axles of an SJ. Think there have been a popular conversion in countries both models were sold to, such as Australia & S Africa.

If I remember correctly , these were mechanically very good but would rust at the drop of a hat. A company ( can't remember it's name) used to produce replica / replacement bodies in GRP for these beasts, rumour has it that these glass bodies were available at one time through the Daihatsu organisation complete with an official Daihatsu part number, A few years ago the owner of a local motor factor had an unfinished fibreglass version in a shed behind behind the shop, I don't know what happened to it when the business closed down and the premises cleared. .
