Just recieved this, must have come last night or this morning to school because it was sat in my workshop when i got here about 7:15. Its a bit battered, I wouldn't have expected it to be perfect but i think this might be taking the curse word. Do i make a fuss or just accept that some firms are curse word and not use em again, after all it will be under the car.

LOL!!!! WTF! thats dreadful; possibly the shipping peoples fault?
don't forget to paint those welds..... exhaust manufacturers always coat the materials; then form them / weld them; whats that all about? you wouldnt paint some sheet steel then press a body panel out of it; knackering the paint as you go.

is that exactly how it came?
I'd be giving them an earful for not bothering to package it properly. on eBay thats defo a neg moment.
Shipper can't be held liable for incompentant packaging, or lack thereof.

Was it meant to be new? Unless it was a budget or second hand buy I wouldn't accept it IMO.

Depends how well its was described, if it was descirbe as "mint", "as new" or even "good" send the f**ker back!
However if it was described correctly, I personally would fit it. Purely cause its going to get totally battered under the car (if your car is lowered that is)
EDIT: that is one massive silencer!

Hmm, looks exactly the same as the stock silencer on a W115 too... that's handy to know.
If it's from a firm, I wouldn't accept that. If you pay for a new item you expect it to be like new, regardless of where it's gonna sit on the car.
I suppose it depends on how badly you need to fit it!

...come to think of it, if it happened to me I'd probably curse word about it for a while then just fit it anyway...

Its not a E-bay item, its a new mail order off the interweb, Just got this reply from the firm; Hi, The only thing I can do is collect the item and issue a refund. Exhausts do not come individually boxed, they are delivered in a large metal stillage and are more often than not dented. If I was to supply you another item it would arrive in a similar condition. Regards, Buypartsby The dents do look as though they are made by the rolled edges of other exhaust cans. They have won, i really cant be arsed to arrange collection through site team here and then make sure i get a refund, Then find someone elso to supply and deliver and loose another weekend to get fitted. So i'll just sling it on. So here ya go, if you want, an admittedly fairly cheep, and probably battered exhaust part then use: Cats-Director their e-bay shop: BuyPartsByor their other web site: www.buypartsby.co.uk/Or these guys whose name is on the invoice Sutton Auto Factors - Nottinghamshire

I've just given it a good shake and a tap and its not rattling, so it'll be on on Sat, which will be nice as the merc currently sounds like a tractor.

I've used Sutton before, they've been pretty good. Never used mail-order as their shop is quite near to me.

I'd hang it to be honest provided it's got no tears to the metal, the baffles don't rattle and it'll still "work"
But I've gotta ask, if "Exhausts do not come individually boxed, they are delivered in a large metal stillage and are more often than not dented." -how come non of the others I've had evAr do?
Or are they cheap cos they're sending out a bunch of returns cos of dents..

I know Sutton. I've never bought an exhaust off them. They've seen me right on more than a few occasions. As said, I go in their shops.
I'd be miffed that they couldn;t be arsed to wrap it in a pass or three of bubble wrap but as the guys say, its going to be dinted once its on... but theres soemthing that nags at me that says theres a principal involved somewhere...

Something to think about if ya buy for a "show" car isn't it. they are cheap on the plus side. I got shocks and radiatior from BPB was happy enough with packings, although maybe they came like that to them.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I live about quarter of a mile from a Sutton Autofactors shop - want me to go and see if they supply me with a similarly battered one in person? They certainly used to supply some right budget curse word* - To me, it says something significant that the few people I know in the trade don't use bits from them. *though to be fair you were getting what you payed for.

did you send them the photo of that exhaust? thats a rather curse word standard - they cant deny that. it would have left them like that, ive never recieved a package where the box has been damaged to that extent.
tell them they're curse word and just bosh the exhaust on. even so thats still pretty damn shocking

I'm funny about stuff like this, i always try to put the best parts i possibly can on my car. so even if id of got this for a low price itd bother the hell out of me if it turned up looking like that. id probably still stick it on tho cos i couldnt be arsed to sort pickup and refund haha
