WOW!!! I've been following this thread pretty much from the start and all I can say is WOW!!!! Credit where credit's due. The standard workmanship that's gone into this shows immediately. Like everyone has said, time to enjoy it now.
Well done Sir.

That, matey, is a reaaly good looking motor. Enjoy the driving. I really like the wheel arch trim for reasons I cannot fathom. Cheers! I do like the arch trims myself! WOW !!! That looks soooo nice, congrats with the MOT pass and hope you enjoy the use of a lovely classic Vauxhall. i'd pop the mudflaps back on though as they'll keep the worst of the debris off the paintwork. Thank you kindly Jason! I have a brand new set of dealer fit mudflaps to go on at some point - still in their bags with the fitting instructions. WOW!!! I've been following this thread pretty much from the start and all I can say is WOW!!!! Credit where credit's due. The standard workmanship that's gone into this shows immediately. Like everyone has said, time to enjoy it now. Well done Sir. Many thanks! The enjoyment started once the MOT was done. The MOT seems to have been timed to perfection weatherwise. Been out and about in this to show a few friends what's been occupying so much of my time this year. I even took it to work to prove that my reasons for doing curse word all overtime this year were not fictional. All too soon it was time to put it away again - after a couple of pictures!

This looks absolutely brilliant Steve, just like I knew it would. You must be well chuffed to say the least! Congratulations on a fantastic build mate, I've loved following this. Do you have any plans for another project in the future?

Do you have any plans for another project in the future? Thanks very muchly Richard, glad you've enjoyed the thread. Next up for the treatment is a Lambretta I've owned since 1989. It's last makeover was in 1993! Momentum has been lost since I've not done any work on this for a week. Today I dug these period correct mudflaps out of storage, and will hopefully get round to fitting them soon. The instructions seem a bit vague, but I'm sure I'll work it out.

Nice, i've got a brand new genuine set too just in case anything happens to the ones on the car. Once you get started the motivation will get underway.

Yep I was right ages ago. That has to be the nicest Mk1 Cavalier left now. The amount of work and effort you've put in has paid off in dividends. Excellent work sir.

I dropped this off at my unit today, the plan is to get started on the bits of flatting and polishing that need doing. The mudflaps will most likely be going on soon too. If the weather forecast for the Bank Holiday weekend is correct, I should get it all done over the weekend!

No work at all was done on this at the weekend, I figured that good driving weather would have been wasted if I'd spent the weekend in the lock up. Did some miles in it instead. Fitted the rear mud flaps this afternoon Should get the fronts done on Saturday. (Unless the weather's nice again!)

I thought there was a bit of dirt on the rear quater, but it was on my phone screen No dirt here chief! I did give it a clean the other day though, considering its only done 250 miles since the MOT, it was ridiculously dirty! Thanks to an incredibly wet day, the front flaps are now on - Not a lot to do with this other than driving it now. (Until I find some fabric to re cover the seats with )

Honestly Steve, this looks absolutely mint. It must surely be the best condition Mk1 Cavalier out there? As for the seats, can you not dye them or is the material worn?

I don't know about the best, but it's certainly not the worst! The tops of the back seats have been sun bleached, making the fabric grey and brittle. Other than that, the seats aren't too bad. To ensure they all match, they will all be re done. That is absolutely gorgeous! Well done! Thank you kindly! I've been lucky with new parts again - this time it was a pair of new early type mirrors. This car only had the drivers side mirror from new, which makes some manoeuvres guesswork! The mirror the car came with was also from a later car. Fortunately they came with a new quadrant for passenger side mirror attachment.

Before you pull things apart the quadrant looks like a coupe/hatchback one?

The quadrant I have for the passenger side mirror is indeed for a coupe, and therefore won't fit. Looks like it'll be sporting just the one mirror until I can locate the correct part. At least the one mirror is now the correct one! Passed a bit of a milestone in it earlier -

what a stunning resto! I'm not into Vauxhalls...never owned one or probably ever will but I was more than happy to sit and chug through this thread , your eye for detail and the end result of fit and finish is inspirational! a couple of thoughts (please don't take them in any way to be criticisms) , I am surprise that having gone to the extreme lengths that you did stripping the shell that you didn't go all the way with the belly of the car , or were you totally happy that nothing was lurking beneath? also if I had been on the other end of the Shultz gun I would have laid the stone chip on a little heavier at least at the rear of the inner arches...you need a fair thickness to deflect some of the more persistant chunks of aggregate. lastly , I know it would blow your whole stock look thing but I can help thinking how cool it would look on a full set of those vw steels!! top job though.

Thank you kindly Mr Strikey. The underside was in really good condition, so after a couple of exploratory excavations in areas prone to corrosion on these cars, I only stripped back and treated the areas where there was damage. The topside bits all needed taking back to the metal due to the paint having gone porous, making it rust through the paint from underneath. Ideally, I would have had it chemically dipped, but I was put off by the cost!
