It turns out that the slave cylinder won't bleed in situ. I had bled it until there was zero air coming out but that wasn't the whole story, the cylinder never actually filled with fluid. I needed to take the cylinder out and orient it so that fluid could flow all through the system.
Then it worked.
It only took, 3 x mates, 1 x packet of chocolate biscuits, 4 x cups of tea. And a to of discussion.

Back to going forward...... gearbox reverse switch potted and angled so it points the right away when installed Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Starter motor in and connected. originally i was a little worried the the bulkhead connector for the battery feed might be in the wrong place. Looks like my measurements were ok...... New earth strap as well. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Starting to get the near side all connected up and installed. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr I have been wondering if there is lower profile alternative to normal hose clips? They are easy on and off but look a bit chunky? Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr

There are many hex head bolts on this car so: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr I have a selection of drivers so hopefully make this a bit easier with a selection of 1/4" hex drive sockets.. The breather system for the engine has three outlets, the previous engine just had one in the rocker cover. I am using the same breather tank so needed to get three into one. One T Piece sorted the first junction but then i needed to join two parallel hoses. Luckily a bloke round the corner of a mates workshop does stuff with aluminium and was happy to make a thing: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr I still need a sky hook to mount the bracket to though...... I swapped these round as well and shortened the fuel pressure hose. It was untidy the other way. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Getting closer Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr I thought it was time to sort out some new leads as the coils are further away than where a dizzy would be. Turns out these aren't based on BDA. I have no idea and cant seem to find a resource on the 'net to work out what they are from: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Any one have any ideas?

Ok, i fitted - well sort of - the new bonnet. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Thats the bling out of the way. Its getting closer! I started testing the electrical systems as driven from the PDU and from/to the ECU. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Took a wee while but all worked out ok - nearly. I found the odd issue like the front wheel sensor that was wired back to front...... But i couldn't get the fuel pump to or the fans to be driven from the ECU. Both work if i force the PDU outputs on. So i thought i would come back to that. I needed to calibrate the temp sensors first. The ECU came with the 'correct' linearisation for the sensors but i had changed one and the other one didnt agree with the ECU so.... Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr and Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr We've all do it haven't we..... Also i bought a cage mount for the Anderson connector to the battery Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Pedal box moving forward Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Then everything went a bit pear shaped with the ECU/PDU/Dash. I am using a PDUX2 but when i bought it there wasn't any specific PDUX set up software. However, the PDUX seems to be a different architecture so Life have produced specific Firmware and Set up software. The ECU not driving the PDU inputs was an issue so i spoke to the Supplier and he team viewed in and stated i needed to upgrade. he also changed my Cals so they would 'work' with the new version of Firmware etc. Anyway, i then spent a very exciting weekend as both the PDU, Switch Panel and Dash gave the impression of being Bricked - they weren't but gave a very good rendition. Seems that as soon as the Firmware is updated the PDU will only accept a Cal that has been produced on PDUX setup software. And Life have changed the Can Frames around so the all the inputs and outputs are on different Can Frames from where they were. Luckily it seems all the But positions are the same. So, that just leaves me to re write the PDU Cal in the PDUX Set up software and change the Can Frames for all the Custom button actions in the Dash. Then i won't get this: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr

been busy with the car but on things that aren't very photogenic in the main. So lets look at the Carbon Fibre Hood/Bonnet: first thing; This is not an Avenger bonnet. But it does fit 98%. I had used normal bonnet pins on the Glassfibre version but thought this would look better with those recessed aerocatches....... Working out where the best place for the pin was - plasticine to the rescue. Carbon Bonnet fitted. What next? Only real outstanding things are: Anti freeze Plug Leads Throttle Linkage Be calm about the bloody issue the Life Racing knew about but hadn't released a fix for..... Carb Trumpets. So last of the list first. The Jenvey heritage TBs come with their own trumpets because they are the only ones that fit. Say Jenvey. Not true says i. The supplied ones are a bit too long for my application and more importantly are not the best for airflow. A friend of mine did some back to back tests on a dyne between the piper cross version and these types. A measurable gain was achieved of a few %. I had use the 40mm version on the old engine so: Bad Trumpets Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Good and Bad Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Best trumpets Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr If you look closely you can see the throttle linkage has changed. The Jenvey supplied one is a bit 'normal' and has only one cable. I don't like this. Plus the cable entry point was pointing to the bulkhead in the wrong place. No one likes this. So i decided to go all Historic BDG. See if i can fit this Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr First problem is that the throttle quadrant on the TBs has a welded on ball and i need a bolt through thing. Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr A bit of careful grinding and the original fell out leaving the correct sized hole. Do this again on the extra quadrant i bought and it all fits. I had already installed extra long mounting bolts for the TBs so: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr I bit of fettling on the pedal box leverage was needed to get the correct travel but its all done Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr

These came off at Goodwood probably three years ago now and had been held on with racer tape. new bolts and some thread lock should sort it again: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr Remember the saga with the Life Racing Dash and PDU? Well to cut a long story short: It turns out that every time the dash was set up with the PDU info it corrupted the Dash some how. Life apparently knew there were problems and had a release to sort it all but hadn't got round to releasing it...... Eventually they did and i have everything working now as it should. Apart from the wipers. The wipers logic circuit is correct but the PDU doesn't always do what it is supposed to do for the wipers in terms of timing. Its liveable with but not impressive. I don't know for sure but i think the PDU must be a PLC inside and the Ladder Logic is having timing issues depending on when in the cycle the Wiper Stop get triggered. The car is off to NMS for its Rolling Road set up on Tuesday 31st, the proof will be in the eating.........

The car is off to NMS for its Rolling Road set up on Tuesday 31st, the proof will be in the eating......... Bit of a saga with the electrics - The furthest I am going to go with modern tech is thin wall insulation. All the best on dyno day and hope it all goes as expected.

Car is now back in the garage. I am always nervous when my car goes on the Rollers. Anyway, it started up after a check of the settings really easily. No faults or issues what so ever. The following day the car was strapped down. 09DACC17-BFF8-4AAA-838A-CA06AC10771C by Nevtiger, on Flickr And the low level stuff done while the engine was run in. Only issue was that one of the throttle quadrants fell off due to the grub screw coming loose. All sorted in 5 minutes. We also used a tank of fuel and had top top up from the Drum. In the end these were the results for a 1598cc BRM as installed: Untitled by Nevtiger, on Flickr What it sounds like: IMG_8630 by Nevtiger, on Flickr IMG_8633 by Nevtiger, on Flickr I was pleased - very pleased. Then with Launch Control initialised (listen to the end): IMG_8635 by Nevtiger, on Flickr There is one issue where the starter motor won't release for approximately 0.5 seconds but that appears to be an issue with interference on the Canbus. I have entered a Hillclimb in June.....

I saw this on Facebook. Good power and it sounds great. I wish mine would rev to 8000+. Have you driven it yet?

The engine is safe to 9500 so i am informed but for the sake of longevity we decided 8300 was enough.
I have driven on and off the trailer..... Its been busy round here so i shall wait for a quite time and when half term is over..

First even this Saturday just gone. Dick Mayo sprint at Castle Combe. I didnt get to the end of the lap on the first practice run...... Simple failure. I seem to have forgotten to secure the clutch system bleed line up out of the way. It fell down onto the track and eventually knocked the bleed nipple out. Then the clutch wouldn't work. Until i make 'A Thing' to hold back the slave cylinder in situ i cant bleed it so it was back to the garage and go through the pain of box out, slave off, compress cylinder, bleed the line, put it all back together....... 2 weeks now until the double header at Castle in Cornwall.
