149k Miles, which is nothing for a big Jaguar V8.
100% Reliable - always starts first time. I have been using it on a daily 100 mile commute to Hemel Hempstead, and it has never missed a beat (just drank a bit of fuel!).
No overheating – I use the M25 for my commute which is a car park in the morning, and the needle never moves from the half way point. No oil or coolant leaks.
EML light is on, which has been pointed down to a faulty MAF sensor. The car runs fine, no lumpy tick over or poor idle. Pulls well in every gear, with no hesitation.
Put her into Sports mode and, believe me, the full power is still there! EML lights are common faults on these, and MAF sensors are cheap enough. It’s not bothered me, so I have left it as is for now, as it does NOT affect the way in which the car runs.
Brakes and suspension seem good, with no knocks or bangs. Most of these XJRs have worn bushes causing clonking sounds when going over pot holes – this big cat is fine!
A proper wolf in sheep’s clothing and a true super saloon. Happy enough pottering around town at 30mph, cruising at 70mph on the motorway or lighting up its rear tyres on twisty back roads. That supercharger whine is truly addictive.
I’ve had some fun with this in my ownership, and upset quite a few cars (including an E92 V8 M3!). This is my 4th X308 XJR, and by some margin, the quickest of the bunch (it seems to have been fettled with, and also has a K&N Air Filter).
Fuel economy: if you drive her hard, expect low teens! It’s an XJR – XJs are bad enough on fuel, don’t expect an XJR to be better! However, on a run, I have seen 27mpg, which is as good as it gets for a near-400 bhp super saloon.
A smooth, magic carpet ride that only an XJ can deliver. Nothing else wafts quite like an old Jag XJ!
A few marks, blemishes and scrapes on the bodywork (see photos). A couple of rust blisters here and there. There is corrosion, especially on the rear arches and front wings, but it’s not the usual rot box! Cleans up well and still a presentable car. Interior is in good condition, with no major rips or tears, but the driver’s seat has the usual wear.
Apart from the cruise control and steering column adjustment, everything else works as it should. The Air Con is ice cold, the windows, wipers, climate, stereo, and even the electric aerial work the way they should. Parking sensors are intermittent, and they continuously beep when reverse is engaged (most likely a faulty sensor).
Not a brand new car, but certainly one of the better examples for this money and mileage. Please be realistic with you expectations - It's a 15 year old car with average miles. If you want a new one, go to Jaguar and pay over £70k for it!
Very practical and solid. Only for sale as it was a stop gap whilst I was looking for a 530d. New car has arrived, so it is now surplus to requirements (although I would rather keep this, but not feasible for a daily commuting tool).
