Yeah at least it's back but they refused to let us recover it ourselves and now the owner has to pay at least £200 in recovery and storage costs. Just seems like the powers that be are more interested in making honest people's life difficult than solving crime The owner is not responsible for paying the recovery/storage charges. As they are not the 'Person Responsible' mentioned in section 99 of the RTR 1984. www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/section/102www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/section/99You can pay under duress to get the vehicle back, but then chase for it to be reimbursed or even small claims court if they still refuse. Is it REALLY worth the hassle? I love old cars as much as the next person but, honestly, its a boggo spec Orion that has had the a**e ragged off of it by scum, let alone been damaged to a point where it simply may not be worth repairing unless 1.4L Orions make you want to crack one off. I still get amazed at the amount of people who don't insure cars 'because it aint bein used innit' I mean, is it THAT expensive to get cover on a car on the basis that its not actually going to be driven on the road and is going to be stored? Seriously, its 2015 and unless your pride and joy is stitting secure in Fort Knox you have no guarantee that its safe from theft or damage. Crazy.

Seems the powers that be are just out to make money, I would pay the fee to save it. Fair enough it is a low spec Orion but there is not many left now

He has well over 20 cars, most of which are not in use. so yes I imagine it really would be 'that' expensive to insure that all. Even if it was insured it wouldn't be worth claiming anyway. He could probably hope to get what, £500 max off the insurance, and would end up paying more than that back with his loss of no claims.

I'm surprised, with that many, he knew one had gone missing Fair enough.

Just seems like the powers that be are more interested in making honest people's life difficult than solving crime I would kick off about the recovery fee if you were about to fetch it/ move it from the road yourself promptly, unless it was a hazard to other vehicles and couldn't be moved otherwise there's no reason you couldn't have fetched it. To claim otherwise is just making money for the contractors It was dumped in the middle of a road but I did tell them we could have a recovery truck there before their one could get there, but they weren't having non of it. They said it had to go to the pound so scene of crime can do their thing, which is curse word

He has about 5 spaces in the garages at his house and a large drive/parking area with at least another 7 on. He's got a few more dotted around at other places too. This one was parked on the front of his house for sale so it was a bit blatant that it had gone, had it been one of the others it may of taken a while to notice!

Thats absolute BS about it needing to go to the recovery yard for SOC to look at it, if it was involved in a serious crime or fatality then they may have been able to justify it in case evidence was destroyed or compromised - as it wasn't thats just garbage. If you are burgled do they expect someone to shift the house to a handy place for them to look at it and say they can't get anything from it? Of course not.

Yeah we know it was BS but what can you do? They were refusing to let us recover it and I doubt my recovery man would of liked turning up to move a car and having the police giving him grief. I haven't spoken to the owner in a couple of days so not sure if he's tried to take it further or not
