I am not at this time decapitated, dead, or mortally wounded Just a loony lefty with an Imp fetish! ;D IMO car manufacturers have realised that safety sells and so make more of a fuss about the safety features new cars have - manufacturers in the '60's and '70's were producing perfectly safe cars but they just didn't shout about it. Well, apart from Volvo

if car manifactures stopped advertising the safty equipment and made cars give more feedback to the drivers instead of asisted steering ,braking, abs, and all the other junk that does nothing except make these numpties think they are invincible when driving we would have alot less accidents. one add that realy annoys me is the citroen add that basicaly tells these numptys that they can go to sleep in there cars while driving cause the car will wake them up with an alarm when they go over a white line WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ROAD HAS JUST BEEN RESURFACED IE NO LINES and the other cars that advertise that its ok if you drive to close because the car will do the braking for you advertised as "peice of mind as standard "the add should read false sense of security as standard . fact is if people didn't know thie car was as safe as it is they might just drive it a bit better ;)the are not invinsable they just think they are

True that, they think that these advanced safety systems will save them no matter what, so if they get lazy or drive badly then the car will stay in lane for them and hit the brakes for them. They're good ideas, but people are going to be abusing them I'd think.
As I said before the main cause of car accidents isn't your car being built without side airbags, it's poor driving. I think our governments, in every country, need to do something about bad driving, and stop depending on NCAP and car manufacturers to try and bring down the death rates. And of course they'll say the don't have the money, or they're already doing that with GATSO cameras. Anyone who'se driven all the way up the A9 in the north of Scotland will tell you that they haven't made it any safer, cars, lorries, buses, tourists' motorhomes and everything else still pile up, plummet down ravines, roll over and land on their on their roofs, or just lose control and hit the armcos up there still, regardless of how much the police get from GATSOs every year, and I don't see any of it getting invested in anything but fat Government pay cheques.
