I worked at a Vauxhall garage in the late 90's and used to deliver/drive about in all the model range of Corsa's and in all honesty, the lower end models were not nice to drive at all. They seemed to be somewhat gutless and had heavy, dull steering. Diesels and 3 cylinder models were just nasty.
That being said, when a Sport or GSi came up it was like a whole different car and I actually quite enjoyed them.
Its like anything on here, they all have potential. I think their time will come and they'll be more appreciated as their numbers dwindle.

Good rally cars and plenty of mental engine swaps available, they certainly have potential. Someone i know has a 10,000 mile 1 owner example Corsa B sat in one of his lockups, sadly its a Cat C, afaik its been fully repaired, but its a basic model only i believe Probably not worth a great deal I had a car like that once, laid up and forgotten until I just needed a set of wheels for a few months. I repaired it, drove it and then sold it to our window cleaner for £300 because nobody wanted it. It was a 1972 Mk 1 Escort. With hindsight, not one of my better decisions. But at the time people just weren't interested in an old Ford shopping car. That Corsa probably isn't worth anything now, and they'll never be a classic, but I have a hunch that in a few years tidy original examples will start to go up in value as the generation who grew up with them, trashed and abused them, reach the age of nostalgia and want to buy back into a car that isn't riddled with body control modules and canbus systems. ^^^This^^^ James

they are shopping cars and that's all they fit for. There are a fair few rally drivers and drag racers who would disagree with you... *n but that's just a shell that looks like a corsa

Its what you make of it. I learnt to drive in one, personaly ive found i generaly don't like vauxhalls, but they all have bags of potential, they can be made too look very good, and with a 2.0, what more do you want? As Novas become more desirable and the prices rise, these will follow.

My first car was a Corsa B, it was a 1998 Corsa Capital. So they'll always have that little spark of affection in my mind. Edit: Just found this post from 4 years ago, feels like I've been driving for longer. So today was the first day behind the wheel of my car on the public highway. 40 miles thus far 16 solo. And I was fine, even did national dual carriage way limit. Untitled by || L || E || X ||, on Flickr

I have always thought they were bland and horrible, sorry not to my taste at all. Especially when driven by youths with stupid exhausts on and they try to race everything in their rice mobile. Vauxhall is a European brand, not an Asian one. Edit: check out points one and two of the MO: home.retro-rides.org/?page_id=17014*n A car isn't always Asian to be a ricer, I know Vauxhall is European. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricerBtW I wasn't being derogatory to your exact car, you asked if there was any love for them and I said my opinion of them, sure we disagree so let's leave it there. Anyway good luck with your car, anyone spending time and effort to keep a car going deserves praise

Its a real shame its a basic model and not something special, otherwise it would be worth sitting on a 10k miles cat c

I had a 98 1.2 merit and it is the worst car I ever owned. The only special edition I have come across that had a glove box lid as an option. The steering was so heavy the wife ended up going into the side of a 206 within a week of owning it because she couldn't turn the wheel fast enough during a low speed left turn. Horrible car but will be rare in the future just because no one now wants a modern small car with heavy steering when there's so many cheap alternatives.
