Thanks for the kind words and pm's guys.. Managed to get the sideshaft bearing puller pretty much machined the last couple of lunchtimes Checking to see if tube fits into recess A bit more machining to thin it down where the nuts go in Bearing side finished. Ready for welding That's it for the moment. Going into hospital today for a minor op. Light duty for a couple of days but then straight back on it......

Rotorkat should have been allowed unlimited access earlier on.... Micies chomped all the foam out the rear seat...
Was a cool cat though...RIP

Sadly, she lost a leg and was too far gone to save. She was a great kat errr... cat... also very hard to photograph! Strange but true, her fur was so glossy the autofocus couldn't focus on her How like Uncle E to have a kat that's invisible to radar

Right. Enough talk of other people's pussies. The recuperation faze following the op has been terminated. Recuperation, following an operation, seems as if it's to check if you have the willpower to resist the temptation of slitting your wrists with a dead herring to allieviate the boredom of doing nothing. Epic fail on my part. Checked the cupboard. Checked the freezer. Fresh out of dead herrings. Gave it up as a bad case of toy soldiers. So snuck out yesterday.... Operation bearing removal a success. So much easier with the right tools. Sideshaft and puller into the press Gave it a dose of psi's , and out it popped Well worth the time making the puller. No cutting. No grinding. No bludgeoning the sleeve with a chisel, and no getting hot and bothered trying to vapourize the bearing with a gas ax. Civilised like. Less than ten minutes to strip all four All the bearings out the housings. Going to ditch the fancy outer seal. Don't need the 4 wheel drive style extra lip. Will use a normal 62x50x8 oilseal instead. Karma is a funny thing. That first holier than thou axle I got from the two old ladies, could have been returned as scrap. But I didn't have the heart to. Fast forward to last week. I found a hilux diff centre portion advertised on the bay of flea. 99p start. Yeah right, and pigs can fly. Thought what the hell ,and seeing I wouldn't be around when the auction was ending ,due to a prior appointment with the Barber of Seville, I put a cheeky bid on with three days to go. And forgot about it..... Missus mentioned something about paying for an eBay purchase, but at the time ,having just got out or surgery, I was a bit out there like Pluto, so didn't pay much attention, just gave her the customary ,"yes dear". Nicely surprised yesterday to discover this at work waiting for me... Series three, excellent condition. Got to love people that don't know what they are advertising. If they did, I seriously doubt they would have let a four pinion lsd go for £23....... Delivered.....

Wooo hooo nice to see you fully recovered and cracking on with it again Bargain ebay purchoice too - I'll not ask why cos diffs are the work of the devil - took one apart years ago to rebuild and never managed to get the thing right - thought never again - backlash and crushable washers to set up engagement - makes me shudder thinking about it

Before we got sidetracked with axles and other peoples pussies, I had started on a set of front coil overs. The observant amongst you may have noticed I dropped the subject like a hot potato... Yes, I was waiting for springs, bushes, inserts, etc, but whilst waiting for that I found out a couple of things. I crack tested both stub axles, one had a crack. plums. I also had a sneaky suspicion the other was bent. Ordered up the threaded sleeves, etc. Sleeves arrived, and yep, wouldn't fit on the one that wasn't cracked. Proper measure up, bent to curse word. Sod it. Couple of emails to various people. Organised a set from a mate in Manchester. They arrived, useable but fairly heavily corroded. And the earlier type with smaller bearings. But useable all the same. Then, out of the blue, a DHL delivery from a friend in SA. Bent, but bigger bearings. So..... Time to get my fab on. Started making two new sets of front coilovers Welded the end caps in, then needed to bore out the inside to suit the bushes. Bit of a challenge there. Needed to bore 130mm deep. At around 5 times the diameter of your boring bar, ie a 20mm bar,so 100mm deep, you run into stability problems because your tool is hanging out to far. Gutter minded readers can leave now... So, brought this baby out.... Only used when I really have to. Solid carbide boring bar. Works beautifully, even when sticking 150mm out. Well, it should, over £600 sitting there. One bang and its scrap......

It survived the onslaught. Bored out beautifully ,0,01mm difference over 132mm depth. Happy like a pig in Palestine. Turned down the other end Good day all in all Ready to go back in the lathe tomorrow to have the other side turned to the correct diameter and be threaded. Stay tuned....

The coilovers and rear axle was a bit of an interlude. Needed to come up with a tool to do the side panels. So, after quite a lot of thinking about how to progress, I started. Couple of bits in the mill... Screwed to bits together and started roughing out the pockets Down to depth, sides still need finishing Figured it most likely would have warped ,so flipped it over, shimmed it up and gave it a light skim Yep, it had warped. Another skim and off we go.....

Back up again and a bit more roughing out Think you get the idea from this angle Start of finishing it off... Starting to take shape. Profile looks right
