The same is happening in SA right now - Brits are buying up all the rust-free classics and shipping them back to blighty to sell on for profit - it is driving up the prices of cars and parts in SA out of the reach of most punters.
Greedy barstweards are ruining the scene for us!

Greedy barstweards are ruining the scene for us! Think you will find it’s a greedy Dutchman supplying the chain though😡. Was already happening 10 years ago in SA, but the Brits are getting a bit tired of coastal cars supposedly living their whole lives on the highveld, only to arrive here as rust buckets. They are also getting a bit stupid with their prices |

But as you gathered, I was not offended or anything. From my view at the time (without knowing how you meant the word) it was just an opening for a silly joke we Dutch hear often enough. |

I used to work with a lovely young lady from SA and she called them 'Dutchy's'. It came up in a conversation when she mentioned she was at school with Charlize Theron and I asked what she was like and got the reply "Well , not bad for a Dutchy" who knew.

I feel like you maybe have explained this before but I don't feel like going through 140 pages to get the answer. Why an RX2? (as opposed to various other choices) It kind of found me and I took pity on it 🤣🤣 Thanks for this - all of mine pretty much followed me home (was half looking for one though) So far I have mostly managed to miss the kind of BS that you describe - my issue is that except for the MG everything I own is so obscure in Canada (or the world) that parts are a PITA to source - that and paying either USD or GBP exchanges with Canadian dollars. Ah well I don't drink much and social distancing means much much lower expenses.  |

I went to South Africa a few times for business, Sandton near Johannesburg the office was near Kyalami, a weekend in Cape Town and a visit to Sun City. Watching the sun set from the very tip of Africa drinking wine bought in Stellenbosch earlier in the day will always be one of my best memories. Always had a good time out there and this was in the late '80's early '90's just after the end of apartheid.
I asked what the best way to learn about the history and was told read Wilbur Smith, recognise both those terms (Soutpiel and Rooinek) from his books. Still don't fully get the history and the switch from Dutch to English British 'ownership'.

The office was in Isando, hotel was the Michaelangelo in Sandton. Took a day off in the middle of one visit and bought a S1 XJ6 and the VW Split screen crew cab. One was a highveldt car, the other definitely wasn’t. I miss visiting, last time was in 2004. |

I feel like you maybe have explained this before but I don't feel like going through 140 pages to get the answer. Why an RX2? (as opposed to various other choices) Unfortunately around that time,there had been an influx of Aussies and Kiwis that were systematically raping the European parts basket of anything related to old Mazdas,specifically rotary related. (Not yoeddynz , he is a proper petrol head and saved an Rx3 whilst he was touring the U.K. 😁👍🏻). Everything they could lay their hands on was going straight into containers and being shipped back to Aus. Not for the love of old Mazdas,but for the love of coin. Complete cars were also going,this rx2’s sister car and both of dom10a rx3’s sister cars all got exported by supposedly Mazda buffs. All sold on within two years of arriving back in the Southern Hemisphere,so pretty evident it was a money making exercise all along 👎🏻 I must quip in to say that I ended up advertising my rx3 on here in around 2009 and on a various bays of E etc and didn't have much interesta at all from UK buyers- It seemed that at the time circa 6000 quid (around $12NZD which at the time seemed fair money to me) was deemed too much to pay for a restored and road legal Rx3 coupe. However- the few that did show interest were aussies and Kiwis. I ended up selling it to a fellow Kiwi who continued to use it on the road in the Uk while he worked here and then shipped it back home to NZ where he now uses it (after finding some plates and tags to swap over on it, so avoiding the ballache of a process it can be get an imported car on the road here) So that's nice  Of course... had I kept it myself and brought it over with me I'd be sitting on a decent nest egg because that same car is now worth more like $40-60,000 NZD !!!! Such has the market gone mental here for old rotaries  |
