tiny bit more done today ,,

the drivers side was a lttle more complicated , some panty waister fop had stuck an entire surrealists organ ,designed after a cocktain of mushrooms , lsd , and 3 jaffa cakes ... a well known overload diet if ever there was one ,, in the way .


i got an old rose joint , and took off the exhaust support bracket ,drilled it ,and fitted the joint ..





i realised i had no lock nut , and it was a odd fine thread , so i started to cut the hex end off the fitting it came from ..





i was slightly taken aback when the sparks were pure white , this i am sure you all know , means it is solid titanium , darn that nasa salvage source .

could not bring myself to cut that up , so a hunt through the ali babas cave of a million bolts ensued , finally finding one ...this meant i could go ahead and try the unpainted strut for fitment and zorst clearancenosity ness .






looks ok , let's try the arm ..








well that's a tight fit , as the vicar said to the schoolgirl ,AS SHE TRIED TO GET ALL HER BOOKS INTO HER SATCHEL !!! o.m.g you guys !

tomorrow i get to take it apart and wire wheel it smooth and paint it , then on to the bottom cross piece and the centre post .

So today i decided to try to brace the end spars so they don't act all floppy .


you may remember that bit of 1/2" stainless bar with a curve in it ?





i hacked it about a bit and made a couple of bracing struts , without making any new holes in the car body ..


oh !

firstly i did an experiment , i was curious how accurately one could get the paralelnosity of the bits and pieces just by eye , , so i measured the angle of the two struts and the cowl i was aligning them with ,to see how out of wack it all was ..

here's the 3 angles as set by eye ..

so that's surprisingly not too awfull ,anyrdup , this is how the new bits look..








and got the other side done too..






tomorrow i can get the stainless wire on the welder and weld those to the main spars .

That brace has a fair bit of girth to the shaft.. is it going to be a bit much in the way of your field of vision?

That should take any wibblenosity out of the spars.

Not bad, still think a screen like this would have looked better

Last week i was working away ,digging shale in north wales , however ,though you may groan /cheer at the thought of less poltroonage ,and waffledom , i am here to trifle with your attention span once again , with a tiny little bit of progress/research.


I rolled the old girl out into the sunshine on sunday , and started taping foil onto the struts to see how it might look..

oh firstly i used tape to get an idea of the viewing aperture ..

anyrdup , i persevered ,and got all foilly wiv it , it was such fun doing this in a force 5 gale ..






filled in underneath ..




added a frame ..





and some Deco detailing to see if it brought it a bit lower...





then the lower centre ..









And i really didn't like any of it , it's just too tall, the whole ethos of the car design has been to accentuate the lowness the longness ,and the slimness , this is like strapping Dolly Partons chest onto Audrey Hepburn ...quite simply ..a CRIME.




So i had a think , and realised , the only way is to either choose ugly ,and high ,or pretty and wet , just like i like my wim phhfphff #innapropriate.


needless to say , i am going for P and W.


so , plan is to find a screen i like ,and use it's dimensions adjusted for my wheelbase car height ..this leads me to this ..

the really important number here is the body depth ratio to the screen height ..once i had worked this out , it appears i need 5" on the side spars and 7ish" in the middle , then the glass with curve up from the side spars .

Now the down side of this is driving the car with the hood up will be like running down a crowded street (remember those?) wearing a letter box .....

so plan 5,467 is to slice foam out of the plush sofa ,and get lower until shorty can not get any low low low low... ..er..

This would give me more viewage.



i can always glue to foam back in if i get a numb bum , also i may try to find some dunlopillow foam , which is firm and thinner while giving support to the baton de lurve .
