i know its not the wisest choice for an engine, but i've not got deep pockets and not able to save huge amounts each month, looks like you've a big selection of vehicles to choose from. lucky you. think i might give up posting on here as theres constant bashing on my thread. or maybe its just me

looks like you've a big selection of vehicles to choose from. lucky you. It's a big selection of scrap!! I doubt I could raise £2k for the lot Only three of them are even roadworthy and I can't afford the luxury of a newer daily driver to fall back on either. Please don't make the mistake of thinking a large selection of cars equates to wealth!! Three of them didn't actually cost me anything and half of them don't even run!. think i might give up posting on here as theres constant bashing on my thread. or maybe its just me It's not bashing, people have posted advice that you have chosen to ignore or not even aknowledge presumably because you don't like what they have to say. What do you expect? Maybe the line between bashing and an attempt at humour is a little vague? As for the engine you now have, I'll suspect that by the time you've got a gearbox and sorted it out and got it running properly you could have bought a complete alternative parts vehicle. If you want to stay with four wheel drive a complete rusty 200TDi Discovery would give you everything you need. Probably with the ability to sell whats left for more than you paid for the complete vehicle. Or if you wanted a two wheel drive solution, a complete Vauxhall Omega can be bought for peanuts. Again, giving everything you need with the ability to sell the remains at a profit. Presumably the info in the link I posted for you about engine mounts was of no use then?

i did'nt ignore posts, just find it hard with words.
i'll apologise now if i've upset you or anyone else.
i've not got the room to store and break a vehicle, toyota engine sold.
this 2.5 cost all of £60, i had to pick it up in my 15yr old astra daily driver.

No worries mate, good luck with the build, I'm hugely impressed with your metal skills. I am also a huge fan of Rat Rods myself. Maybe I could build a Rat Range Rover!!! My 92 certainly has enough rust to qualify for the rat look

I think if it's a build for you then why bother seeking approval? if you think it'll work then try it and see! i think this is pretty impressive seeing as you are starting from scratch and that cowl you've made looks pretty good, and that engine will do fine in a chassis this light. keep going with the build, big respect.

This is one of the only forums that is not vehicle specific and one thing i HATE is the armchair profesional who does not have the kahunas to do something as RADICAL as poprodder.
We are not all blessed with tools and funds to do what Chris is doing, our fathers use to do this with vehicles such as Austin 7's.
Personally I would not know where to start or what to do but Chris is someone who pushes the envelope and turns his back on 'conformity' and does something for himself which he finds rewarding.
My advice, looking at 'post bashing' is start stamp collecting, OR appreciate what this forum is about and support people who 'DARE' to do something different and push that envelope of what they want.
Please, advice not animosity!

At least the n/a diesel isn't as likely to self distruct as its turbo'd brother .....,
Trying to remember the engine mount situation, its been quite a few yrs now ....... But seem to recall you have to move the mount under the injector pump. As i said its been a while!

Did you want it rear wheel drive or 4x4 ? Once you finalise on that, then you can get the appropriate gearbox, as previously said the old sherpa used the same engine, and so did the older london black cabs.

Ignore the knockers and carry on brother. I've been watching this one for a while and I'd love to have the skills to do what you're doing. If it were me I'd be more likely to frame up the body out of timber like the old boys did on pre war racing specials as alluded to by s2000 above but that is just because I have more experience working with wood than with metal. Having started with a Landrover chassis as you have I'd be inclined to keep the four wheel drive just because I could. That thinking might just be a product of my rural background though.

So much of this doesn't fit into the traditional hot rod idea, but that just makes it, well, slightly mad. I like mad. Looking forward to updates

nowt wrong with the 2.5 NAD, 2.3 petrol power, 2.3 diesel fuel consumption. best of both
LT76 (series gearbox) could work, although it still needs the transfer box to provide two wheel drive, which is unnecessarily complex. although low range crawler gears could be unusual/quirky ? i think the sherpa/rover/ambulance LT77 would be simpler route

I'd still keep the low range transfer box even if only two wheel drive. Might need to tow something heavy or pull stumps one day. All my vehicles have towbars though. It's compulsory.

need the 4wd box as cannot change rear axle.
remember this is a rebody and must keep within the rules and i don't give a flying curse word if you disagree with the rules.(this applies to all the haters and rules bashers!!!)

It makes a refreshing change to see someone building within the rules and not just 'ringing' a car into existance!
Good on ya mate

As you're using the the original g/box that might give you a bit of breathing space pointswise to change deal with the steering if you need to. Colin

Look forward to seeing the next update, Probably best to wait until you've finished each step you share because people are always going to give advice. It's up to you to take it or leave it. I'm sure people like me were just underwhelmed at the engine choices. I got excited with all the samples of what you were going for and then.... :/ All the samples had V-8's or V-6's. Rodders didn't care about what other people thought of their rods but they built them to go faster. If you have to do it on the cheap maybe just use the stock engine and "Hop" it up? I take it for the rules you have to stick to diesel? I'd love to see a rover V-8 in it even stock you could polish the thing to death, add zoomies add more carbs when money permitted. Be good to see how it all turns out, Hope you didn't get too disheartened.
