Mopar Action is by far the best car mag out there. It's got a twisted sense of humour, and hands down the best tech articles. And Richard Ehrenberg is the God of car mag technical editors. He has no formal training, but I believe that he has been admitted to the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers - an American Professional Association) on the basis of what he has taught himself. Very impressive. Here's probably the most notorious story ever published by MA.
