Years ago, when I was a transport manager, we needed to get a small parcel from Cheshire down to darkest Devon ASAP. The boss, obviously thinking my Series 2A land Rover probably wasn't the vehicle for the job, threw me the keys for his SD1 Vitesse and told me to skedaddle. Naturally, I did. What a fantastic drive! Good job I'd taken a fuel card though.
Just lovely beasts and although I never liked them when they very first came out, they've stood the test of time well.

I am completely biased and love these cars. That Goodwood video is superb. I quite fancy the idea of doing an SD1 2000 turbo, along with a Marina TC and .......

I'm guilty of owning an '85 SP Vitesse in "Silver Leaf". Learnt to drive in it 25 years ago(!), can't imagine selling it.
Pictures will follow one day...

Being ferried about as a teenager in my dad's modified Vitesse was certainly a good time.

Always loved these old barges since watching them race at brands many years ago, my step dad used to drive a dark blue vp which we had half a pallet holding up the drivers seat, Ooh and was it the kidney run I'm thinking of? I remember watching on TV of the rovers darting around London? ?

didn't top gear do a piece on SD1 racing?
When I was about 15, my friends dad had a VDP...I remember is being the most luxurious thing I'd ever been in. Can't remember the last time I even saw one now

Can't remember the last time I even saw one now Top gear did the piece on the end of the engine, Which ended up with hammond entering a race in an sd1..

How many people have read this thread then gone straight to ebay Me! I've been having dreams of one of these with twin RR Artouste turbines converted to thrust and mounted in the back (obviously) with the jet pipes just poking out the back panel. 7000kN thrust should be enough for a one-way hoon

Don't want to cloud anyone's nostalgia....but back in the day I worked for a large local car dealers and when these came in part ex they were awful, door panels falling of,rust attacking sills arches, and generally poorly built.....the salesman hated the things and all were traded out or sent to auction, me? I loved them and aged 20 I used to love wafting around in them, whilst trying to get electric windows back up! Probably explains why I've ended up with a 98 xj sport

About 10 years or so ago in practical performance car mag I think one of the writers of the mag was fitting a merlin engine either out of a tank or a plane. Half the engine was in the bay and half the other half in the cabin. Anyone remember it?
