Right fellow RR'ers, this is my very first event report so I hope of interest?
I am VERY new to this picture taking lark and certainly have never put my interest into a report so you guys that do it all the time - Please feel free to critique my attempt as I won't learn without guidance.
All pictures were taken on full Auto mode on my Nikon Bridge camera (Purely because I do not know what to set it on?)
I digress - Sunday 19th - It was cold, very cold and MrsSmokeEm and I were dressed for summer!
One of the 1st to run, was my dear friend Ian. His Mk2 RS2000 is pushing out 480bhp without nitrous! He was running consistent mid-late 10's so should get better during this season.
Nice Sapphire looking good on polished softlines
As it was still quite early, Ian came around for another run quite fast. This time against a Pinto Powered 105E Shooting Break..
Well presented V8 'Taz Racing' Capri was lovely - sounded the nuts!
The queue was building with a nice mix of cars including the XR4i - Had Practical Classics on the door?
Lovely 'More door' Mk2 in a rather fetching green hue
Another Saph daily getting abuse...
Stunning V8 Capri of Brett Pidgeon launched hard out of the bleach box
Freshly built Mk2 Cortina with Cosworth Turbo power was running in on low boost
Still launched hard but backed off at 1/8th mile
Still ran a 13!
Interesting home built Fezza
Little Mk2 Fiesta with 'Track only' cold air feed...
Chris Todd (Rolling road mapping god) was there in his lovely Mk1 Xr2
Reversing back into stage... Wheelie bars? On a Fiesta?
Err, yes. Much needed too. Fiesta is Subaru Turbo powered amidships! - Ran low 10, little slower than usual!
Brett Wright pulled into the box to warm the tyres on his XE Turbo's 105E
Brett obviously decided he fancied taking the Oldskoolford 'Burnout of the day' award
Brett later blew the engine big time - Huge crack in cylinder
Jordan Peters in his CVH powered mk1
That XR4i again..
Will tiger stripes make a comeback?
That Jet Car Thing
I hope this guy now understands that having a quick car does not make you a good drag racer - No warming the tyres meant he launched off the line with masses of wheelspin. When it started to grip, the forces imposed started to vibrate and the sidepipe was smashing into the strip while he tried to control it! I did have a chuckle....
Not known to me was this lovely 105e
Next up was another good friend of mine, Kevin Jenkins in his immaculate Mk1 Escort running a turbo'd XE with over 600bhp!
I didn't get any pictures of his run as I was too busy screaming at him to get a new pb - Not this time, just a 9.0 @ 151mph!
Another old friend Thierry in his 1660 Xflow Mk2 Escort lining up against a clean Capri running 45's and open headers!
Nice Mk1 belongs to Glenbo from OSF - He was OSFDC Champion in 2012 & 2013 - no mean feat!
It was at this point, just past mid day and we were FREEZING! MrsSmokeEm suggested coffee & a burger along with a warm up in the car... No argument from me!
So, from the warmth of the daily, I saw the lovely 'Taz Racing' 105E that had run out of fuel
Soon to be towed back with this little rocket
There were RS Focii EVERYWHERE
Spotted this lovely mk1 Fezza in the queue - Olympic Blue?
MrsSmokeEm returning with Coffee & Chips!
With the wind still blowing a gale and the temp still only about 7 degrees, we made the decision to go to our Hotel early and so the day was over all too soon
I will leave you with this picture of my friend Kieran - Son of Kevin Jenkins in that 8sec blue Mk1 Escort - Kieran at only 18, already has the contract to supply photos of Santa Pod events for Classic Ford Magazine (It can be done!) as well as the upkeep of his You Tube channel @ Mk1Kieran - Cheer up Kieran
as already mentioned, please feel free to comment and suggest better ways to set up my camera or wording etc.
Over to you fellow RR'ers
