I do love Honda Civic's and i do love the Kanjo race groups in Japan as they are real dedicated enthusiasts. I just think the 'Kanjo' scene in the UK is a bit strange as we don't have a loop for one. Plus everyone is on the bandwagon now its kind of ruining the appeal of the real thing in Japan. Nice write up by the way and Hondas are awesome! Nothing is sacred anymore, blame social media. There isn't much that isn't alternative or underground anymore. Which saddens me more and more every day!!! Great informative thread btw I have to agree with you Slacker. It's like people mixing too many colours/flavours. All that ends up with is a yucky brown or a horrid taste in your mouth. And anything that is alternative/off the radar is soon commercialised as a pastiche replica. Carry on with the original Kanjo pics, they're cool.

The thing I like about Japanese car builders is their build always have an identifiable regional style and even when they use cars that are modified all over the world they keep a certain Japaneseness.
You've got some photos that date back to the 80s there but is that as far back as the modified car scene goes in Japan or was there stuff going on in the 70s and earlier? Obviously we've seen lots of newly modified 70s Japanese cars but were they building these cars when they were current too?

A close friend of mine runs his own honda tuning company, he also deals directly with osaka jdm. This is one of his blog video's where he got exclusive footage and a passenger ride on the kanjo. This is my old civic. Stripped out with a b20 engine among many things. I was lucky enough to have it featured in Banzai magazine.

Really cool little thread. I remember watching a documentary about these racers. I might have seen it on YouTube, not sure. The cars are cool and I love the stuff like the window nets and the hockey masks.

I expected to open this thread and "not comment" as a mark of disapproval, but I like it all! Those early Civics are very cool, while the UK boys were still sticking slot mags on Cortinas with jacked up rear ends the Japs were wanging arround at 8000rpm stanced!

Loved this style for a long while now. I built a B18 EG for blasting around on track with in 2013. It got featured in Japanese Performance and Honda Tuner. Just before I sold it. Visited Japan again this year and visited a few more garages. Mechadock was pretty cool and Kazu-San was amazing and gave us lots of presents. His EF was badass. And this EG was INSANE loud even just moving it out of the unit! Also one of the many garages we visited was FiveMart (OsakaJDM) Where I bought my Devil Wing Spoiler from for my EG. Their 3rd gen racer is badass! Another 3rd Gen And another EG

I love this thread, I really want a civic with nets and then put a hockey mask on then go thrash the streets of Leeds.
