Nothing to do with Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. I wish. Today was D Day for getting the Olds trans out. I know several people offered to help otut here but it was all a bit short notice so the only people I beeped in for the fun were Canuck and Pillock. As I did my bvack in last weekend my role was that of tea boy so I provided tea, coffee, burgers, pasties, beer and "helpful encouragement" but the bulk of the work here was done by 'tother chaps. So here we go. 1st problem is that the decent jack won't fit under the front of the "a bit low" Olds. So I suggested Cannuck lifted the front of the big block yank onto the jack. Which he did and that worked well Not a lot of clearance space at the back So out with the bellhousing bolts and the ones underneath (heres Canuck) and here's pillock This was parking brake and gear selector away moment. This is the "three jack method" this is more of the same here's the guys getting the CV joint off the diff to drop the prop Prop away! Heres some unsavoury looking activity involving bits of wood. The trans was down but the jack was too tall for us to get it out from under the car. What transpired next has been bnlotted from my memory already but everything now smells of ATF and we used a couple of carpets and lots of wood and two bricks to achieve it Oh, and the torque converter fell off. Heavy as it looks really Finally after several hours and much head scratching the trans is out. Sleep tight sweet prince Canuck thinks I need to redefine my term "fun". We managed to start at 10 and not even ask for the service manual until 2:30! We are real men. And we smell of ATF.

Glad to see it's halfway to being fixed Are you going to the trans refurbed or just swap in another one? It could be worse, everything could smell of EP90

I'd have dressed up a bit if I knew I was going to famous! Really impressed actually that we got it out in that amount of time... 'specially since we didn't bother with the service manual till we'd done most of it! And I don't care what Canuck says, I thought it was fun Wasn't long ago that I feared doing my own oilchanges and brakes etc....

Good job men. Thats a sexy looking' Yank AK. Good to see the Granny's Carpet method of heavy lifting in place. What with all this laminate flooring being installed at the mo - in 20 years time there'll be no old rug around to help out in such situations.

I had a genuinely great time Mr. Pillock! It was good to meet you!
I'm now thinking that we need more of a challenge!!! Engine rebuild perhaps?

heh heh, glad you enjoyed yourselves guys - you know whats coming next.... "reassemby is the reverse of disassembly" I owe you two big time. Also quote of the day, about 30 minutes in, Pillock says "only time I touched an auto box was when we pulled one from a type 3 VW. Bent the main shaft and it never ran again. Maybe I should have saved that story until after..." Quote of the day #2 cancuk looking at the trans in the car... "it can;t be as heavy as it looks" - no it can be heavier...

Well... everything within about 50 metres of my driveway is covered in a thin layer of rust. I think I've removed more rust from that trailer than there was steel to begin with Sounds like you chaps had an enjoyable day anyway! I need to get this trailer back together again to pick up this Peugeot on friday

Maybe I should have saved that story until after..." Well it did run afterwards.... long enough to destroy the gearbox! It was done with much less thought and preparedageness than today's efforts though. Thanks for the invite though, had a great time! And I was joking about being on holiday when it's time to go back in.....

do not adjust your set. This is reality.
Trans is going over to a local fella for a rebuild shortly and then we can see if we can get the bugga back in
Then you can have your trolley jack back Pillock....
