All the rot has been cut out and new panels and metal put in (by better men than I). It's time to think of paint. I have spent weeks agonising over it and I think I have decided to either keep it all in the silver it already is ... or to do it two tone with a darker / graphite silver on the lower half I'm not 100% sure either way so I thought I'd see what you guys think of my idea via the medium of photoshoppery

I would be keeping it all silver, as the grey looks too much like you have just primered over rust.

Silver ftw. Two tone looks like a dirty 1980s tide mark.

Maybe. If the grey goes higher and follows the curves of the car. Like on the old Alan Mann colours, but monochrome, yeah? Or flip it with the dark at the top, light at the bottom (but again following the curves)

I think maybe a grey pin stripe (like the mexico escort style) would look nice but think the two tone looks like you're trying to hide something haha

flip it with the dark at the top, light at the bottom That's what I'd go with.

the idea of keeping the top half the same colour as it was is so I don't have to pay for the engine bay, interior or boot to be resprayed and i'll save myself a few quid (god knows I need to after all that welding!)
The darker lower section will still be silver (not grey), just a darker one
I knew there was something not quite right about my idea though - hence the post
maybe I should try not at the swage line but at the edge of the wings and see what that looks like - Alan Mann escorts always look the nuts obvs

those 3d models are amazing
I'm quite keen to do something different and avoid pretending it's a mex or rs2000 though
I have certainly considered having a thick stripe

I'm going to go against the grain here, as far as popular opinion's concerned, and say that I think your idea is a good one. The swage line is a natural break along the length of the car. I like the way you've split the colours at the back, round the lights and number plate area and that would be missing I presume if you went with an "Alan Mann" style layout. You just need to a good darker shade of silver or gunmetal grey.

Basically imagine this but is the grey colour scheme you said. So darker grey stripes on the top and then a dark grey stripe along the doors. Obviously without the Gulf Logos etc all over it haha

I have thought about very little else than what colour to paint the car or if it should have stripes or not for months now!
I was the same last time - it was going to be british racing green right up until the paint guy showed me the Mercedes silver while we were standing there about to do it green!

I really like the normal silver , you do not see many escorts in it , and i prefer the understated look . Not that i susppose you thinking of ever selling it but i think it would go for more in a solid colour .
Just my 2P's worth .
