Talk me into this guys One for sale localy, had tons of cars in my time but never a Citroen, drove a ph2 XM in the late 90's and liked it (my old boss's car) Nowadays i'd only consider a ph1 as they have a more Citroen like interior (pre Airbags) with the whacky single spoke wheel, the ph2 interior seems a bit bland in comparison. Ph1 Really fancy it but need another car like a hole in the head, have the Lotus but thats a toy/project really, the Discovery 1 is needing welding done (bulkhead and inner wings) and some other bits so really needs to come off the road soon. The money i'd be using to buy the XM was going to be spent on fancy bits for the Disco so if i buy the XM the Disco will be on hold for a good while. Walk to work most days, most of the driving i do is local (sold my big V12 BMW as i felt it was being wasted) so really could get by without a car at all , but most of you know what it's like, for the last 10 years i've had at least two cars, the compulsion to buy old sheds most sane people wouldn't touch with a barge pole, it's like an incurable disease But it's also a hobby So anyone on here bought and ran an XM ?, should imagine it's be just like a big Xantia. Can be regarded as fairly modern yet it's such a cool, sleek, elegegant shape compared to some of the bulbous bloated modern monstrosities on todays roads.

You know the old nursery rhyme:
The was a little girl, and she had a little curl Right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was good she was very very good But when she was bad she was horrid.
Someone I know had one, it was the best car he ever had, but it was also the worst car he ever had. When it worked it was brilliant. When it broke it broke spectacularly expensively.

Same can be said for a lot of cars though, the Alfa 155 i had was fanatastic but felt like a ticking time bomb, very expensive for parts, £110 for spark plugs, same for leads, £90 for a CV joint etc. Also the E38 750iL V12, scary if something went wrong, crapped my pants one day when it lurched and went into safe mode (Gearbox and Engine) then found it was just the battery a bit low on charge

A good one is literally brilliant to drive, amazing ride and handling, good engines (except the NA 2.0 8 valve, don't bother with that), very quiet and comfortable, but when they go wrong, MOTHER OF GOD. History, history, history.

If you want it, buy it. Better to regret things you did than things you didn't.

I kinda want to replace my Multipla with an XM. They are just soooooo cool. What engine is it? I believe the diesels are veg oil friendly as well. Buy it and post lots of pictures!

Good choice, not the fastest car but the power delivery and mid range torque are really nice.

Nice work. I'm yet to try an XM, I reckon a phase 1 would fill that sweet spot between BX and Xantia from what I've read of other peoples experiences of them.
