Sadly last Friday my dad lost the fight and passed away at Addenbrooke's hospital surrounded by his close family, he din't recover from heart surgery on Monday before. He was always in the garage in all weathers and all states of health and loved to wear his teddy boy drape jacket and blue swade shoes and of course bootlace tie. Life hadn't dealt dad any favours with his health having Kidney failure in the early 70's and having to travel 3 times a week from Norwich to Cambridge to have 12 hours of dialysis leaving him sometimes so exhausted he would not be able to get out of the car after driving home, but he never complained and lived life to the full and we would go on holidays in the old VW camper van. Years later it was possible to have a dialysis machine at home and the family raised half the cost through loads of events, but it wasn't until 1996 that the third kidney was a success but all these years of dialysis had taken it's toile on dads body.
He loved cars and we had many cars when l was small l can remember the MK1 Capri GT white with black bonnet I though dad was Steve McQueen, he also had Imps, Cortinas, Fieatas,Classic Capri, Standard, Austins a70,Cavaliers, triumph Vitesse,Mayflower to name but a few, but he cherished his 1955 MK1 Ford Zodiac which be bought just a couple of years before becoming i'll, after years of storage he did rebuild it in the 1980 and had it on the road for a number of years but poor health during the early 90's meant that it was garage bound for nearly 20 years, but dad was determined to get the old girl on the road again but his health wasn't good and mum banned him from the garage when the boot lid came down on his arm and badly damaged it. This is when my brother got in touch with Car SOS who completely tricked dad into allowing them to take his car to be a back drop to a new film. His face was a picture during the unavailing at Ace café and he was once again able to take his second love of his life out on the road again even though it was only for a short time.
RIP dad you will be missed every day.
