Going for mot in a few days, just wondering.. 1) Can they fail it on not having one of the rear seatbelts (rhs)? If it doesn't have one surely they can't test it and subsequently not fail it on that? 2) Would it fail on not having a rear foglight? I'm fairly sure they never came with one.. 3) Is there any different/varying rules etc. that applies to it since it's 40 years old? Thanks! Car in question:

Rear fog light yes definitely, unless you got a friend mot man. Seat belts I'm not so sure of although the 205 passed and there's no rear belts at all or seats saying that The other question I don't know the answer lol

From the VOSA MOT Manual - www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s05000109.htm1.3 Rear Fog Lamps This inspection applies to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980. 5.1 Seat Belt Requirements Driver’s & specified front passenger seat A. A belt which restrains the upper part of the body (but need not include a lap belt). Other forward facing front passenger seats (Where fitted) B. None Rear seats C. None

It doesn't need rear seatbelts (wasn't until really quite recently that they became mandatory- 1987), I'd be inclined to take them all out the back to avoid ambiguity.
Doesn't need a rear fog either (1980 for that one).

first registered before 1 Apr 1980 does not need a fog light but if its fitted, it must work. Seat belts also go on vehicle age but basicly, if its fitted it must work, if its not fitted it cant fail but make sure NONE of its fitted.
The rules don't change just because its 40 but there are (as I said above) a couple of items that change depending on the exact date of first registration.

This ^^ if wasn't a factory fit or requirement at the time of manufacture then just remove the offending items, if the items have been retro fitted then they must work and be up to MOT standards. If in doubt take them out

Thanks all, I'll take them out for the Mot and pop them back in afterwards.

Yup, exactly what I used to do with the front belts in my 1962 Land Rover every year The rear belt you have is probably fine, but taking it out a.) avoids the possible debate with a tester not familiar with the rules for older vehicles as to why it only has one and not two and b.) means it can't fail for that one not being up to MOT standard.

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking this thread a bit jxke but my Toledo is going in for an MOT tomorrow and I have a question...
I cannot open the drivers door from the outside. I know what the problem is but it's just too darn fiddly to sort out quickly and I won't get it fixed in time...!!!
Is this a potential MOT fail...?!

Wind the window down and remove the winder handle, if they can't raise the window you can open it from inside without any issue its a pass (with an advisory prob )

Reason for rejection: a driver’s or front passenger’s door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle using the relevant control in each case

Definitely a fail, I had the same problem with my van when a key snapped off in the lock. Even my 'friendly' MOT man who'll always come down on my side if there's any ambiguity made me go and find a lock mechanism down the breakers and fit it before he'd issue the ticket. Common sense really, in an emergency you might be glad someone can get to you from outside the car.
