Pug 205's are a whole lot worse than a MKIV Polo!!! I've owned both and the 205 was definately more twitchy and liable to swing the tail out 205 are notorious for it! Its amazing how lift off over steer can catch you out, especally if you are an inexperienced driver. At least with a RWD car you expect the back end to be wayward!

if your understeering already then steering into it more is just gonna make it worse, you have to lift off gradually and unwind some lock. Agree with this. When I did this in Uni, there was a graph like this - it's plotting cornering force against slip angle ![](http://www.sascosports.com/products/images/graph.gif) From the origin, you can see that more slip angle gives you more cornering force.... upto a point then the grip falls away. Crossplys are more gradual than radials, but it's the same sort of thing. Once you're past that point, that's terminal understeer, so the only way the tyre will grip is to scrub off some speed. You also need to wind off the steering lock a bit, because when the grip comes back it can lead to oversteer. Catching a tail slide isn't too difficult if you're prepared for it, but don't wind too much lock on or you'll never catch the slide that comes after it.

205s are amazing for lift-off oversteer, I've never seen fear in someone's eyes like the driver of the 205 GTI we were chasing on a road rally once years ago... We were in a Scirocco and got it right, he was in front and got it very wrong ;D

Not if you drive like that ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Get oversteer instead and if you have a collision, you'll hit the weakest point of the vehicle. That's why FWD has been accepted so much, besides other things, for safety. Overcook it and you crash the car head first, optimising it's structure and crash protection ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) There are exceptions to this rule though, like the 205 ;D

get yourself a mid 90's fezza and some grass ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) never forget my intro to mega understeer wet rounderbout all going okay no bootfulls then suddenly I'm heading for the curb, god knows how I got out of it but front end drifted to my exit ;D....love doing that now when noones around sliding sideways from the front feels so wrong but its still good fun
