M103 Engine - 2962 cc - 188 BHP - 12 Valve - 130 MPH
Super smoth ride. Happily cruises all day at motorway speeds in sheer comfort and drives better than alot of 3 year old cars.
100% Reliable - always starts first turn of the key, with no hesitation whatsoever. Has the characteristic M103 lumpy idle. Slight misting of oil near the rocker cover, but no major leaks.
Low mileage - these cars and engines were designed for 500k+ miles.
No overheating or fluid leaks. Viscous fan kicks in when it should. Brakes and suspension are good, with no knocks or bangs. The suspension does a grand job of ironing out and soaking up any rough surfaces.
Everything seems to work as it should, apart from the passenger front window which is not working. There is no stereo (it never came with one when I purchased it). Due to this, aerial is stuck in the open position. The boot catch has recently started playing up, and it's fiddly to shut the boot (needs securing in place). Radiator cap is fiddly to remove.
A few marks, blemishes and scrapes on the bodywork (see photos). A couple of rust blisters on the front wings, and there are some dents on the boot lid. Crack in the rear centre light cluster. Not a rot box, and is a genuine, solid example of a W124 saloon!
Cleans up well and still a very presentable car.
Interior has the odd mark, but it is solid and truly defies the age. Driver's seat bolster is worn and the whole interior would benefit from a good shampoo due to some stains on the seats and carpets.
Not a concours example, but certainly one of the better examples for this money and mileage. Please be realistic with you expectations. If you want a perfect one, there are some well-known W124 restorers who will charge you £6k plus for the privilege!
My intention was to get the car mechanically sound, get the bodywork sorted, put in a mushroom leather interior and enjoy over the summer. I've spent over £500 and sorted the mechanical side (see above). However, an £1800 bill on my 8 Series means I need to free up some funds!
Get these little niggly bits addressed, and you'll have a future classic with genuine low miles for less than £2k. These will only appreciate in value, as good W124s are getting thin on the ground.
The car is located in Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 post code. Please contact me on 07984 395400 for any further information or to arrange a viewing.
