Been a busy few days Got the coilovers on but they sit stupidly high and are rock solid. Wheels are on, USA mirrors sprayed and fitted and and interior is in Also rear bumper is finished and fitted Got to drop the car lower but worried the coilovers wont be right for it and will have to go on air. Going to buy some USA rear lights to get rid of the amber and have the tinted reverse lamps. Currently running a german light to make it symmetrical

Bought some new bits off US ebay to bring back with me in october: New OEM mats which may fit a bit weird with our peddles but will see what happens - they look like they have potential: USA rear lights:

OK bit of an update, I bought another car with less miles, better paint and a hybrid engine of the UK spec and Japanese spec meaning it runs the same power 226 bhp (just over 200 at the wheels) but the compression is lower so in theory it can take boost. Here is the spec sheet from when i bought it: It has a few mods which are not to my taste so will sort those out, Ive swapped over the wheels, fitted the new rear lights and will be buying a black interior to replace the grey leather (even though its the best condition one ive seen). Some more pics below of before: I wasnt a fan of the carbon wrapped vented bonnet or rear lights so they have been removed and netted me a fair bit of cash back, also swapped rear bumpers with the original car. I also had to drop two tyre sizes but i still get rubbing on the rear so will need to roll the arches: This car does go really well, future plans: Debadge and remove the front plate off the bumper lower it - probably have to go air i think as I'm not having much luck with the coilovers fit my spare mustang splitter change interior to black swap to stock steering wheel and clocks I will probably keep the original car for a bit longer once i get it on the road but may sell it once complete.

Its a shame the probe never really took off here, i have a feeling the name might not have helped LOL. I've got a soft spot for them though as my dad had an aqua 2.0 which I borrowed a few times, was very comfy albeit very floaty, i loved the electric bolster adjustment!

Does look to have had plenty of careful attention even if some was a bit garish.

Has the new one been on a rolling road to confirm those BHP figures? Pretty good figures if its only really relying on the KLZE cams and inlet etc but on the KLDE block and C/R. In fact I thought it was the heads that change the compression.. not the block or pistons. So in theory yours should be 10:1 ?
That engine bay looks very tidy.. I'm liking the matt black with the red.

I'm liking the matt black with the red. I know the previous owner had the car dyno'd a few times so those figures should be correct. I also watched it at York Dragway on a couple of occasions, it ran mid 15s mainly due to not being able to get off the line cleanly, I think it was running Marshall tyres which were a hard compound. A friend ran a Mazda 626gt on nitrous which ran the quarter faster though (14.9 pb).

Awesome then! Gives me more hope that my KLZE is indeed likely to have over the factory 200 (I've sort always figured it more likely to be around the 220 mark) Might not have the same low down torque as I have got such short runners but the overall cleaner free flow setup Ive made would help to lift the top end power.
Every time I see a Probe now the shape grows on me. *
*that could be taken the wrong way....

Every time I see a Probe now the shape grows on me. * *that could be taken the wrong way.... KLZE is factory rated at 197 bhp if I remember correctly. Brian the previous owner was an engineer so spent ages making up bits and pieces for the car, I think the first time it was dyno'd it made only 187 at the wheels (There was an article in Fast Ford/Performance Ford at the time with a photo of him looking sick as a chip). From what I've read the ecu is key to getting the power, without it the VRIS system won't work at the correct time with the cams (if you are running an aftermarket map-able system it should be easier). I'm must admit I don't know that much about the ZE as I only have two 2.0 16v Probes.

The KLZE motor as per my original car made 197bhp and 193bhp at the wheels when dynoed.
Spec was as follows:
6 branch and stainless system Fuel pressure regulator KLDE ECU so VRIS switching points were not correct 63mm throttle body Induction kit Bigger ignition leads
I now have a chipped ecu for this to run the VRIS points correctly.
The New car spec is listed above but also has a number of unknown mods as when motor was stripped down to install the KLZE cams etc but I'm pretty sure its all ported and polished and who knows what. It was set up by Well Lane Turbo Center and has lots of dyno print outs in its 2 A4 lever arch files of documentation so it is a genuine figure stated above. There are engineering drawings for every custom part of this car. The original builder documented lots and lots of things. The VRIS points on this car are set with MSD window switches.
Ive seen somewhere that if you simply add the KLZE inlet and cams to a KLDE the best you can hope for is 10 to 15 bhp so it must have a lot of other bits fettled.
The compression of the KLZE is 10:1. The KLDE (KL03) is 9.2:1. The HP rating for the ZE is 200hp@6500rpm. The KLDE is 164hp @ 6000rpm('93 only), 164hp @ 5600rpm ('94-97).
The torque for the ZE is 160ft/lbs @ 5000rpm (Have heard 180). The DE is 156ft/lbs@ 4000 ('93only), 160ft/lbs @ 4800 ('94-97).
The interesting thing about the ZE and DE torque # are that they are almost the same. What you don't see by looking at the numbers is that the peak torque of the ZE holds out longer.

^ these figures are really only the starting point too. So much more can be gained without even boosting the engine. You could have a probe that sounds like this... :-) (ok maybe this loud might not keep mr Mot man happy but anyway..

Very shiny! Looking good. Seeing nice Probes like this are making the shape start to grow on me. Very few about in NZ now. The last one I saw was quite a while ago when I ended up racing it up our local big hillclimb (Viva won on power but the probe blatantly handled far better)
Just spotted your location. My brother lives in Abergavenny. He's about to get his brand new lease car- a bimmer m340i which he's very excited about as he's been driving around in curse word old cars for years.

Remember when probes first came out I had one for about a month as a company car and I remember when the boss told me I had to have it I thought it looked awful but remember it drove great. This is one of those cars that didn't look that good when they came out but whenever you see one now they look great. They seem to get better with age. Love it.
