I had a good look around your car Sunday, it was as good as expected, top job. The Allegro stand looked good too and general comments of people wandering past were all positive that I heard, funny how a few years on without the constant talking down by the media opinions can change. I'm not speaking for edk, but let's say you go to the porsche 911 stand to admire the beauty or engineering. people were coming to our stand because "my dad had one of these". Which makes the "ordinary" cars sound less important. I found the cars very well received due to nostalgia and social history, an actual emotional response to human aspect rather than the car itself, I think that's just as powerful Thats some true shizzle right there. Mabie even more powerful. I know that if i saw two cars side by side, one being a mental powered supercar, and the other being something I could relate too, I know which one Id be looking at first. However, if theres a car that i can relate too, with a mental powered supercar slaying engine install, win win.

So I don't think the car will move much over winter but I've a few little jobs to do. First is change the hydraulic fluid pots as they weep at the seals which is rather annoying, these were 2nd hand with the pedal box so I have a new set to go on. Second is swap the awful sticking fuel filler cap for a fast flow screw type one, I could have made one but after some searching I found one with the correct bolt pattern in the USA. Just so happened my friend was over visiting so got one sent to her in Missouri and she's just dropped it round Told her to keep hold of the packing slip otherwise it could look slightly dodgy on the xray machine! Third job is a little more work, rear disc and hub conversion. I've offered up a Corsa sri rear stub axle and caliper, everything clears so it just needs mounting. I got a scrap arm and chopped the stub axle off flat, no way the rear circlip was coming out after 40 years! Now I can figure out the best way of mounting it, I can't bolt it as the bolt holes end up in the structure of the arm, looks like it might weld though.

Drill and tap into the arm ? Then weld the bolts in place if not confident? Makes it replaceable. James

The track width with disc is within 1mm of the Allegro drum setup so basically perfect as is.
Drilling and tapping the arm is a good idea though, not that often you need to change a stub axle but removable is good.

Fuel filler fixed, happy with the result. Had to get it from the usa as I couldn't find the right bolt pattern anywhere else.

So I've not done a huge amount recently, mainly due to doing a lot of fixing my new Jag daily beater. The rear hubs do now look like this though Shiny new GM bearings and hub nuts done to 175nm rather than 5nm and a split pin that the Allegro uses. Break lines are done, had to be braided due to the caliper needing to slide. Everything fits and I have handbrake cables made, I've had to route them through the metal loop on the corsa handbrake mech to keep them away from the break lines. Seems to work just fine, I've put a ptfe super low friction bush in there but I might get the cable modified again in the future.

Nice work, how did you bleed the hydraulics with the bleed nipple at the bottom? Could you rig up a mini handbrake cable quadrant or guide for the cable routing through the caliper?

The handbrake stops me from being able to turn the wheel with a breaker bar so I'd say it'll work.
A pully wheel would be a nice idea, I've ordered some thicker bushes to try as well.
Some bikes use inverted rear calipers, simply swing the caliper down, fit an appropriarly sized block of wood between the piston, bleed and swing them back up.

All bled ok, had to drop the caliper off rather than swing it down. Cut some wooden blocks to fit in the calipers but luckily they wind back a bit anyway with them being handbrake ones. Now to road test and the mot is due. Sneaky

Mot done, all good. Had a drive out yesterday to a public weighbridge, it rounds up to the nearest 20kg. 900kg with a full tank of fuel, nitrous bottle, tool box and tow strap etc, at least 80kg of roll cage. The original 1300 has a kerb weight of 870kg so not bad. I could drive it all day, such a hoot.

i actually found that with my first gte, the stock interior weighed about the same as safety equipment that went back in.
but then when you factor in the benefit of chassis rigidity, plus the bucket seats and feeling of security also increases drivers performance

Nice, engine running in nicely ? Whats the bonce clearance like - is the cage safely away from your head without a helmet ? Similar weight to our old alfasud with a cage but seats still in the back, not much in those old shells ! James

Yeah it runs really well, standard other than breathing mods and a taller cam. When I made the cage I built it so all the bars are as far away as possible for my head, they are all so padded. The shell is thick in some places and paper thin in others, it definitely needed the cage!

I can't remember, are you the Allegro chap that's near Hinckley? If so, it's the Classic Car Show tomorrow evening...

First bit of track time at Curborough sprint yesterday, this was my first lap too, my camera battery decided not to record the afternoon ones. Lots of fun and didn't break anything, rear suspension is far too soft and I may end up going for bigger front brakes.
