Suggestions for a new ride?BenzBoy

OK, at present the Benz is my only car and gets driven every day. I might be getting busier with work in the future if things go right, so I'm starting to mull over getting another car to do the long distance mile-munching. Rocking up to meetings and parking with all the new Bimmers and Porsches in the Benz is fun, and it has been 100% reliable, but it means that it can't be off the road for long, which means I get "TeH fEar" when I think about breaking out the toolbox to do the things I want to do to it.
So... the criteria: I like luxo-barges, but I'm open to other options. I'd prefer something mid-80's to mid-90's. Modding IS an option (I'm liking VIP). Must still be different / rare / stupid enough to stand out in the car park... I'm not ready for sensibledom... Provisional budget of £1500, and this has gotta buy a ready-to-go, t&t'd motor.
I've been looking at W126 and W140 Mercs, e34 Bimmers (I miss my old one!)... that sorta thing, but I feel like I always look at similar cars so I'm looking for inspiration!

8-)I've MOT'd quite a few Saab 900's recently and have become quite fond of them. You won't get a much more comfy car, they're quirky and characterful, pretty fast, one of the best handling FWD cars and built to last.

I am boring so would probably go for an E34. Other option would be something like a monza or senator A. Easily reliable enough and pretty economical as big 6`s go.

HOw about the Peugeot 605 2.0 Turbo Auto I`m currently running about in? Its a lovely, lovely car and if I don't come out of it soon and get it priced up on the lot and sold I`m gonna find it hard to part with and there`ll be tears, there always is.
they're getting rare, when I got this one in I couldnt find any other examples for sale on the Autotrader site, but there were 2 pages of XMs!

Mazda Xedos. Superb motors.
Get a 6 if you want to be able to get bits and pieces easily. Get the more unusual 9 if you are feeling brave enough.

Might be a little on the new side, but with their super steep depreciation and over-chromed looks, the Hyundai XG30 surely fills all requirements? I'd love to see a VIP one.

I've seen a bunch of people overhauling a complete wreck in 60 minutes on TV, so why can't I do it in 3 weeks?

AAAAaarrgh! So many cool suggestions! Thanks!
I was feeling LOTS of love for Lexus LS400's, but parts prices have put me off a little (but only a little), particularly for the money that I'd have to spend. I was eyeing up Soarers too... in fact I'm feeling a big J-Barge with the Bippu treatment.
A nice six or eight pot would be lovely... or a 12... how much do XJS's go for these days?! ;D
I'm nowhere near ready to buy anything yet... getting my hands on £15 let alone £1500 is tricky at present, but it doesn't hurt to think ahead! ;D

You wont be prising me out of my 605 just yet then...good, I`ve just discovered a cd multichanger in the boot and a truly amazing stereo that was hidden away behind a weird panel.
I`ll second the Xedos 9, ran for 2 months at the end of last year, superb.
If you want cheap:
Camry V6, Xantia V6, Safrane V6, 25 V6 (if theres any left) Hyundai Frank Sinatra V6 (XG30 is beautiful but try finding one) Scorpio bugeye 2.9 12v. All these are big gas guzzling f*ckers that arent at the top of anybody`s wish list, you can get them for sod all and they`re all nice cars.

not quite what you're looking for I don't think, but there was a bmw 1602 for £1200 at stonor today, bet he's bargainable down to £1000. All you have to do is find what forum/ebay he's posted on!
