I've just had a quick look too. A quick search turned up two sets both at less than the above, so you're spoilt for choice! There's no telling what the ride will be like, but it's unlikely to be worse than cut springs, also they 'should' fit and work properly. I was sort of under the impression that you owned a super rare car for which no after-market parts were available.:-) Whatever you do, be sure to post some pics. First ones I found on a quick Bing! search. Tons out there, so like you say, OP is spoilt for choice, and there is an abundance of parts available for the vehicle. Never liked cutting springs to be honest, probably because there has always been an alternative available, lowering springs or coilovers. Which are available for an AE80 too.

I ran my W124 300CE on -2 coil cut springs for 3 years. Improved the handling without too much compromise on ride, in conjunction with low pro 18" tyres.
Very different handling on the stock 15" balloons though!

As long as the spring is cut properly so that it sits in the cup as the original would there shouldn't be any dead nuns or kittens but don't forget to inform your insurer that you have cut the springs.

Cut springs*, wire them into the cups so they don't fall out. Try to do it nearly, carefully and well. Save for shorter shocks and a coil over kit (Rally Designs one is pretty cheap really). *Unless they are pigtail springs, in which case don't cut them you mentalist, also they won't fit in the cups so that should be a good sign not to do it

^^^I welded the spring pans I chopped off some E30 struts onto the trailing arms of my Carlton so I could chop the pigtail springs. Where there's a (traveller) will there's a way.

First time I cut springs (two rungs) as my spring compressors wouldn't go that far, and couldn't get the top mount on. Both springs clonk about in the strut base as there's not enough flat surface to keep them mounted. Drives like sh*t, just doesn't feel like it's doing a very good job and can't wait to get them replaced. It's OK if you're not arsed about the ride or the spring moving around on normal compression though.

^^ clearly either inappropriate springs to cut, or too much cut off.
Cut springs, if done correctly can improve handling

Drill a couple of holes in the bottom spring pan and cable tie/wire then in. Jobbed.

10k miles in my Renault 18 with one coil cut off the front and back springs. Ride pretty much the same, handling a bit better, no dead kittens.

Will try that method - it's a CONSTANT clonking. Until I can get new springs!

It's a 1986 toyota corolla ae80.. iv seen a few lowered ones but never had any info awesome cars!! heres my old one That was on cut springs and it rode really well with no issues with it hitting the bump stops I bought lowering springs for it but ended up sending them back because they were too wide for the spring perches. Polo 6n and mk2 caddy van coilovers will fit the front with a little modifying to the hub mounting holes. I ddnt get to find a match for the rears If you need a passenger front running light let me know I have a brand new one still in the box here somewhere that I keep meaning to dig out and pop on ebay Get the grinder out

It was a while ago but I think it was only one full coil but it could have possibly been two. Start with one and see how you go. Is yours the 1.3 8v? The exhaust runs under the sump and will be your lowest point. I used to catch mine pulling off my drive and the occasional speed bump. Other than that and rolling the rear arches to squeeze the banded steels on I had no issues with the suspension Yep 14'' banded steels. The corolla is 4x100 so theres a huge selection of wheels available oh and golf vr6 front splitter has the perfect profile for the curved edges of the front bumper but will need trimming in the centre to fit
