Got my bonnet back from the paint guy and bolted back on before it gets damaged. I need to get some waxoil in it pronto. Much better to have the original back on which fits a dam sight better than the glassfibre item.

So I can put it off no more, I painted this 7 years ago now and the fresh bonnet is showing up my orange peel everywhere else. So this morning I started wet sanding it with 2000 grit paper. I started with drivers side wing for no particular reason but I had to start somewhere. I took a picture before starting to try and show the substandard finish I am dealing with. I am not sure if the picture will show the texture in it or not. So I set to work using my 2000 and warm soapy water and 2 hours later the wing is ready to mop. I will not be mopping it until it is all sanded as there would be a danger of it taking another 7 years to start on the door. The mess the mop makes is the main reason I have been putting this off but a mate offered his driveway/grassed area to complete that part which will soon loose the G3 spray look rather than my drive which if anything like the patio at my previous house would take months to wear off. Cheers Pete if your reading.

Done a bit more on it today. Another hour and the drivers side should be done apart from I have a chip in the paint on the rear quarter where the Mrs/kids kindly opened the door of her car on to it a couple of years back. I need to fill this with paint which will take a few layers to build it up to the paint level. I had a sag/run by the door lock which I attacked with a blade to remove the high spots. Got it down to this with the blade. Then blocked with 2000. I have had enough for today.

I have been plodding on with this grabbing an hour here and there, bearing in mind that it takes 10\15 minutes to decant stuff out the garage and get to the point I can start work then the same again to pack up. Not ideal but not the end of the world either, one less car would solve the problem. However I have got the drivers side all ready to mop apart from the previously mentioned paint chip that needs a little fettling, I have also got the roof done and have started on the passenger rear quarter. This had the worst run on the whole car and I was a bit concerned if there was enough paint on it to get a decent result. After much blade work and then 2000 I am left with this. I will take that as a win. Hoping to get the rest flatted off during the week as I am on Afternoons I can have a couple of hours each day on it.

That looks really good, especially with no bumper. Cleans the lines up.
I admire your dedication to making sure the paint was really good and dry before blocking back and polishing. Its always tempting to do it too soon but you really made sure it was good and dry!

Its always tempting to do it too soon but you really made sure it was good and dry! Absolutely you don't want to be blading runs out on paint that is not properly dry. That was always my excuse followed by do you think I have left it long enough? I have got it all back together and cleaned now apart from the front bumper which I cannot put on as it will not fit in the garage with it fitted which highlights just how tight it is with 3 cars in the garage.

I had a drive over to my mates again today to have a little play with a sticker set that DMB graphics kindly modified for me from the usual kit they have on website. It's been a long time since I put a graphics set on but spurred on by the fact that all I had to loose was what they cost, here is the result. I am pleased with how it looks and it's nothing that cannot be removed if I change my mind. They are obviously intended to go on a mk1 so the wing fitment is not perfect with the swage line but not terrible. Now to finish it off I am thinking of going for a set of image split rims with centres the same colour as the stripe. They are not cheap and image who I have emailed don't come across as being much help in what width will work. I would like 7s but 6.5s would be the safer option.
