Thought I'd give this a topic of it's own after it was brought up in the hate thread. I think they CAN work. Not always, but sometimes. I'd love to see an imp on Compomotive MOs for example. Black imp, wide arches, white MOs. I think this would look GREAT if only the wheels were a bit smaller. I think the whole car is ruined by the wheels being too big. Anyone got any other examples of it working/no working?

always makes me think of Aus or NZ when I see old cars on big rims ... not keen but they seem to have much better taste in big wheels then people in the UK do ...

People get confused with why stuff looks bad. Normaly wheels don't look bad beacuse of thier design they are just the wrong size. Modern rims give a differant look but if they are the right size then they can look just as good. I think half the problem is most modern rims come in the wrong sizes for most cars
The red pickup is the perfect example of getting it right.

We have a lot of people here who are putting chrome rims on their oldschool rides and it looks terrible most of the time! Make that ALL of the time.

exactly right picking a modern rim isn't just a case of that rim will do, you have to make sure it suits the cars shape and style and more importantly that it fits the car properly. most people get it wrong by getting a nice modern rim but getting the offset wrong or getting a flat faced rim on a car that would suit a dished rim . you will never change the oppinion of the it came with 13" rims so anything bigger is wrong brigade but then its realy not worth even trying to. i like big rims on old cars as long as they suit the car and if your going bigger than a 15" rim bigger brakes are a must or they will just look silly ;D

I personally like the new/old mix. As long as the wheels suit the car whats wrong with it? Just my humble opinion :-)

I'm still on the fence with this one, when i first put the 17,s on the carlton i loved it to bits. i waited quite a while to find a set of rims with a lot of apparent dish, but the modern(shadowchrome) finish looked kenk. so i painted tehm bodycolour centres with a dullish silver rim. for a while i thought it looked fantastic, then i changed my mind and sold them on. now I'm rolling on the steelies and that looks curse word too. oh whats a boy to do
buy some massive dish 15,s. thats what ;D ;D ;D
