Liking the alloys! I've a 9-5 estate myself pushing around 270 at the minute, fondly nicknamed "The grim sleeper" and a 900 turbo build on here somewhere!
Are you gona be doing the subframe brace for it?

Cheers I need to get the wheels on sooner than later so I can keep myself motivated on this thing haha I wasn't planning on doing the subframe brace to be honest. Its had the rack brace and the bulkhead sorted which seem to have stiffened up the front end pretty well and torque steer is manageable. With the lowering springs and fresh tracking, I hope it'll refine the handling even further

Shock horror! An update! Not much has been happening with the Saab of late, it was just doing normal daily work then I got a bit distracted with a V12 BMW and then I got ill so didn't feel like doing any work on the car so not much had happened The last thing I tried was to start fitting the lowering springs but having been defeated by a front hub nut I gave up So. Next week its going into the Saab place to have the springs fitted and to have the handbrake shoes fitted. Lazy I know but I just can't be bothered and I want to see the car with the springs fitted! To go with the lowering, I've done 3 of the 4 wheels. The 4th wheel has been dropped off with a wheel refurbisher today so that the slight buckle in it can be straightened out. I'm also getting them to polish up the lip to save me a job and speed up the refurb job for me once I get it back. I should be picking up tyres for the wheels on Friday so depending on how long it takes me to paint the 4th wheel I should be able to have the car low and with new wheels by the week after next! Here's hoping anyway

Not even 24 hours and theres been a spanner in the works The wheel at the refurbishers had been previously welded so as they tried to straighten out the buckle in the wheel, it cracked! All in all, its going to be longer lasting and cheaper to buy a replacement wheel, I think I've found one, so hopefully just a temporary delay on the wheel front...

just re-found this thread. did you sort the "service theft alarm" warning? it's almost certainly not the PCB - the alarm siren will need it's back up battery changing. supposed to be a sealed unit but it's do-able or just swap it out for a good one (ie, a less old one).

Ah that sounds like it shouldn't be too tricky? hopefully theres a guide online somewhere.. After I get the car back from the garage this week, I'll be making up a big list of all the stuff that still needs doing then I will make sure to work through it all!

As someone has said, "service theft alarm" means it want the back up battery changing.
It is a pretty easy job, the unit is sealed but can be opened pretty easily. Theres a battery on the computer board that will want soldering in. my local battery supplier charges me about £3 or so to supply and fit the battery.

Theres a battery on the computer board that will want soldering in. my local battery supplier charges me about £3 or so to supply and fit the battery. Ah that sounds like it should be a cheap fix, something I desperately need on this car! Well the car went into the Saab garage yesterday to have the lowering springs fitted and the handbrake shoes fitted, as a result I ended up with a loan car again. At the rate I'm going I'll have driven most of the later Saab range A diesel manual 9-3ss, not bad but a bit slow. The others I've driven are a diesel 9-5 and an auto petrol 9-3ss, all decent cars in their own way but it is always nice to come back to my Aero Halfway through the day I got a call to say that the handbrake shoes were fine and my handbrake issues were actually down to a frayed cable, brilliant. More expense, which is nothing new for this car which is, I think, the most expensive to run car that I've owned.. Anyway, its got a working handbrake now and its a bit lower It'll look a bit lower after its had some time for the springs to settle.. Its strange this car, its cost me so much and I've never really built a great affinity with it, yet when its clean and I look back at it, or when I'm driving it, it wins me over again. Despite being flawed and there being things I don't like about it. I suppose the answer is, sell it, or fix the little issues rather than just living with them. I'll opt for the latter for now so long as the fixes stay cheap.. So what are the issues with the car?: The airbag light is on The gearstick is quite sloppy A/C compressor needs some shims taking out 4th BBS wheel needs to arrive and get painted, tyres fitted to all wheels and fitted to car Throttle pedal delay needs sorting Rust on rear arches Rear window washer is blocked Drivers headlight wiper needs the park position sorting Gearknob needs taking off and refitting to make the reverse gear gate work again Drivers seat panel still needs refitting Rattle can repair to scuffs on bumpers Sort the service theft alarm battery Fit new fuel filter Eugh thats quite a list now I've written it out Hopefully sorting a few of them will alleviate some of the disdain I fairly regularly have for it haha and if I sort them, its in a better place for selling anyway so its a win win

Looks awesome that low buddy, well done for sticking with it, I am not sure I would of had the patience Cheers I honestly don't know how I've stuck with it this long, in reality I should have taken the advice from the garage way back when it first leaked fuel when they told me to sell it since the cam chain was on its way out but hindsight is a wonderful thing.. I think at this point, I'm just refusing to let the damn thing beat me! Come the new year, I will have to make a decision about which car to keep out of the Saab and the BMW, as I'll probably fancy a change by then. Who knows, maybe I'll be forced to keep the Saab once I see it on the new wheels...

If you are struggling with finding a wheel, it's still perfectly repairable, there is a place near my work (admittedly in Bristol) that will do a proper cut-out-the-crack repair to an excellent standard for only £25.. So yea. If you REALLY are struggling maybe PM me about getting it couriered to me?

Its already been chucked and a new one ordered, but thanks for the offer The wheel had already been welded before so maybe it was just better I got a new one for the cost the place in Cov were going to charge me..

I've sort of decided that my 900 is going after Christmas. I'll have had it over 2 years by then, it'll be on 175k or thereabouts, both arches are getting worse and the floor isn't great either. I really want another Alfa (maybe a 145 or a 156SW) but if the right 9-3 came up I'd buy it like a shot.
Amongst cars of that sort of age and value, most of the rest just seem a bit bland.

The right 9-3 eh?... Oddly enough I was getting a feeling for an Alfa, was looking at GTV's and Spiders again I'm in a bit of a quandry over what to do with the cars, the MG stays, thats the only certainty I had planned to get the Saab through its MOT in January and sell on but I've sunk a fair bit of money into it which I've not really had the chance to reap the rewards of yet.. but I know that I'm going to lose money on it regardless. But then equally, it does a decent job of getting me about, can be entertaining at times and sometimes when its clean, I look back and think 'thats a well designed bit of Swedish metal' On the other hand, I have the 750i. Bought on a complete whim, I've got little investment in it, its arguably in better shape than the Saab, has a better history and its got a damn V12 but then on the other hand, its a nearly 200k mile V12, do I want to be putting miles on that everyday driving to and from work? With no Saab as a safety net for if it goes wrong? So I've got reasons for and against both If the BMW fails its MOT in November spectacularly then that might force my hand but in the new year I could still own both, own either one, or own neither

Not much of an update but given the car a bit of time to settle on the springs.. Was never going to be the lowest in the world but I like how it sits, although I'd probably have a smidge less arch gap at the front in a perfect world, but oh well! In other news, my order for a 4th BBS LM style wheel to replace my cracked one, had been lost by the place I'd ordered it from ¬¬ But it sounds like they're going to sort it for me so hopefully that will be on its way soon so I can paint it and unite it with the other 3 Tyres are in the back of the 750i too so its all there ready and waiting to go!! Still in a bit of a dilemma about what to do with the cars going forwards.. But I've got my sensible hat on today which says I've spent enough time and money making this a reliable daily, so it makes sense to use it as such.. I don't much like being sensible though haha

tyres get fitted tomorrow and I'll hopefully get them on the car tomorrow evening as well, excited! Sigh... As ever with this car, I have spoken too soon! Went to get the tyres fitted and one of them has a tiny puncture in it so yet more time until I can fit them all, the wheels that do have tyres though do look good so thats a bit of a positive..
