See, I still think there's room for this kind of thing even if the cars have gone up in value somewhat, the trouble is now that it seems to be it's no longer cool to do things on a budget to stand out but rather to stick to a formula and show off how much money you can spend keeping up with everyone else. In my admittedly small knowledge of what goes on outside of the RR bubble the monetary side of things doesn't seem to be the issue since there's no end of young drivers barely out of their teens that seem to have no problem in spending thousands on virtually brand new cars, then spending nearly as much again on air-ride systems, brand new wheels and interior re-trims. For the cost of what it takes to put a five year old Golf up to show standard, you could probably build two, maybe three unique rides (obviously depending on what you start out with) and stand out ten times more for a fraction of the cost. So yeah, while times change and in turn older and classic cars have become more sought after I think it's more the change in peoples attitudes that have seen this kind of thing disappear more than anything else. This, exactly this!!!! That's why our car club call ourselves 'Scene Misfitz' And here's my offerings to the gods of the budget slammer Bought and insured for less than a £1000

Inspired choice for a thread - very much approval ! The Sceptre Estate on Ford rims with screen visor is very much the direction I've been trying to take mine It's also easy to love the blue Mk1 'tina panel, would be very happy with something like that (but the wheels might get changed ) For me, running an unfashionable 70's motor as a daily is about having fun on a budget, I can afford a more modern motor but there's nothing I would enjoy as much so why change? Keep up the good work.

Good to see the Proton getting some love, I think it's technically an Iswara as the Saga was the earlier shape.

I see quite a few bits and pieces around along similar lines, mostly 90's hatches now because that's the cheap car option for today's yoof- that and lots are on alloys just because it's much easier and cheaper to get hold of them now. I sort of attempted something along these lines with my Polo about 8 years ago, although I don't have any with the rest of the wheels painted (in fact, I can't even remember if they all got painted). It wasn't particularly low, mostly so I could get it on the drive but also because that was the set of springs I bought cheap second hand and neither knew of the concept of chopped springs nor owned an angle grinder. Mind you, Mud isn't a million miles removed from that concept either, maintained more or less on a shoestring budget and with fairly basic mods (slightly lowered, wheels). Can't find a decent piccy currently though... Most excellent thread. This is the sort of thing RR is about for me.

I am now praying that someone from here possibly took some photos of my cars in the late 80's as I have none.
1st - Austin 1100, slammed on the floor in matt black with green scallops
2nd - Mk2 Escort Estate, Also matt black, slammed on Lotus Steels with yellow scallops
3rd - Chrysler Avenger, 1" from floor all round, plain matt black on banded mexico steelies
There were many many more but the above were my favorite - All were around Fleet/Aldershot Hampshire 88-94
I was massively influenced by my big sisters boyfriend of the time, Billy (Mark) Roe, now of Namco - He & his mate Pete Dempsey used to roof chop Moggy Minors and A55's etc - Always in SM etc
