Good work, especially as it's a wagon It's a vote against gold wheels from me, it's just a bit 'scene' (for want of a better word). I've got some gold Oz Superleggeras to go on my blobeye wagon but I'll be painting them grey first (especially as its blue). In a few years the association will have passed and it'll be ok again

well done and good luck with the shakedown with regard to the gold wheels i had a set on my 03 sport wagon and i really liked them(probably better with lowered suspension) because they were 'over the top' but there again they were original spec at one point. []

I cant believe it took this long to nut up and buy an Impreza. Such a fun car! I'm actually starting to enjoy driving to work again... It hasnt been a plain ride, so status of jobs done to date: Gauges, namely the dash binnacle, are flickering and blown. Couple that with the airbag light now being on due to "other mods, I took the cluster out and replaced all the bulbs with LEDs. Much brighter, although a bit more intense than before so there are some bright spots now rather than a diffused light. Brakes, which were solid, were freed off for the MOT. Since then there is a clear binding caliper somewhere. I suspect it might be the fronts, and plan to throw the 4 pots on. Problem is they wont fit the stock alloys which appear to be WRX ones. I have it on good authority STi ones will fit, so on the hunt for a cheap set of those. budget of a ton for them i think. Shifter. Still not centring in neutral, which is making 2nd to 3rd a concerted effort. I have a spare spring from the terrorist, along with the whole assembly now removed. I'll get a short shifter fitted in this then swap the whole assembly over this weekend. Fuel tank. Aye, proper caught out with this one. So happy to have it on the road I treated it to a full tank of V power. got it home and detected a strong whiff of fuel. Yup, drips from the tank. I haven't investigated further but a trip to work and back has stopped the drip. It must be a leak at the top of the tank, and there are 2 access ports for pump and sender. I'll check those for gasket leaks and pray thats the source. A tank out change on these means dropping the diff and subframe! What else... Oh, I made the interior a nicer place to be. Whilst investigating the shifter I took that abortion of a knob off and stuck old faithful on... ...along with a decent head unit. Also, yes, new steering wheel: Too far?

Scoob update! Well, following a ryal fuctercluck with couriers, my plans of rectifying the binding caliper this weekend were shot down. Nonetheless, enough arrived for me to do a few key improvements... The heater never really blew hot air, just warm. I would also hear gurgling from time to time on start up and shut off, leading me to suspect trapped air. These are tricky things to bleed apparently. Challenge accepted!! Also, as per the Skunkworks motto, the job was performed with an upgrade too... Samco rad hoses and Mikalor clamps. Took a few atempts to seal for some strange reason, but got there in the end. Fresh coolant, antifreeze and a proper bleed later and it was good as new. Up next, floppy gears! The return spring to centre the gear lever had vanished. Not a problem, i have a spare from the terrorist! As above, the need to upgrade was strong with this one, so the whole shifter assembly came out and was upgraded to a short shift. As per sodslay though, the replacement spring cracked during refitting, so despite the inmproved feel the lever still doesnt centre! Its a wee spring though, and easy to fit without removing much else. I'll either get a new one or bodge something up with bungy cord.... I feel obliged to sort the agricultural gaiter now that the top look sso good. Other than that, it was just a bloody good scrub left on the cards... Much better. Starting to feel the gold wheels now. STI 16" wheels will be posted up on Tuesday and naturally need a lick of paint before throwing black hoops on them. Might need to reconsider my colour choice...

The gold wheels look superb, so do silver ones, you can’t really go wrong either way I might be looking for another set of wheels to put a new set of summer tyres on (car already came with a new set of winter tyres) , probably gold wheels but not fussed. Your Scooby’s coming along great, they’re just such amazing cars !

Update! Continuing siezed calipers on the rear are now resolved. I wont go into the mountain of issues associated with this, lets just say its fixed. Finally. Feels so good to drive a car without binding brakes... It really is the simple things. So what else? Well, following the brakes, I decided to splurge out a bit and treat her to some new oil. I love the Pro S range of oil, tremendours stuff. Complimented by a mag sump plug and a K&N oil filter. Should keep it lubed (ooo er) Other than that, a wee treat for myself. Never dug the wood Nardi, and it always was a temporary measure. Its replacement is now on! Much better!

First, like you when I did a tankful, so my answer until we can drop the tank out was to put PHP2,000 worth on an empty tank. Half full, no leaks. Petrol prices drop like stone, 2,000 is now too much and we have a leak again. PHP1,500 seem to be the answer for now. Interesting to have a leak that tracks fuel prices! Got to agree with the steering wheel comments as well, nice.

Bad Impreza... BAD IMPREZA!
Took the Green Goblin on its first proper long distance trip following all the work done to it over the past few weeks. A nice easy trek to Ayr. Managed to get to Dunblane before I heard a mild clunk on coast... speed related, from the rear. Hmm. One to watch.
I needn't have made the note to remember. By the time I reached the M80 it was a violent thump on every rotation of the wheel. Rage. That will be a thrown bearing then. Some roadside assesment deduced that the rear bearing was toast.
Limped it to Hypertech. It still there now.
curse word. This might be the first time in a decade I've left a repair of one of my cars to a 3rd party. I do not feel comfortable about this. There was a reason I learned to spanner. It was garages...

possibly the heat buildup from the binding brakes cooked it? Hate wheel bearings! Hope you get it sorted quick!

So to update. Wheel bearing: Fine. Looks like the wheel itself had worked loose. Yes, I'm a spaz. Collected the car and drove her home. It must have felt bad for not presenting me with an actual problem, because it soon did on the return leg... No boost. Grand. Got her to the Skunkworks and had a look. It was clearly blowing from the manifold which explained a lot of the boost loss. No exhaust pressure = no boost! From a short appraisal it looked like it was localised to the up-pipe, a common fault on these. No problem, i wanted a proper look at the turbo at some point anyway. Replacement sourced from a breaker, and the strip-down began. Well... almost: I swear to god, this thing just likes to up the stakes at every opportunity. Cue several hours with a plasma cutter and some tricky under-bonnet maneuvres, and the up pipe and turbo were out... Up pipe first... no doubt what the source of the drama was. Clean split right around the circumference of the flexi. Humped, in other words. Not to have a look at the turbo... Shaft has no play at all. Its got life in it yet, although 3 sheared / chopped studs will mean some remedial work is on the cards later. I might dig out that spare TD04 I have lying around...

While yours will be an EJ20, not the 25 here, feel lucky the turbo has no play! Double check the service history and see of it has been replaced, if it has...and they didn't replace the main crank bearings at the same time, do it! When these blocks gave a turbo go, the loose pressure which starves the main bearings of oil very *very* quickly... Very happy to see another turbocharged boxer on here other than my legacy truly are awesome dailys!

Jeez, what a 2 weeks its been on the Scoob... first up, I ordered a stock replacement up pipe for the sheared one thats causing the problems. That took an AGE to arrive, so I was going aff my head at that. Then, whilst waiting I decided to address the sheared studs in the TD04, as a paperwork exercise knowing I had a spare TD04 from the Terrorist. It didnt go well... There was heat, penetrant, more heat, swearing, relief holes int he threads... eventually I gave up and dug out the spare TD04.... which was completely different. Imprezas are one of the worst cars for getting tweaks and upgrades throughout their lifespan, and the TD04 spare was a "front entry", meaning the turbo was a conventional style with the intake exposing the impellor. What I needed was a "Top Entry" which has a 90 degree bend integral to the cold side casting. curse word. This was towards the end of last week, which led me to remond myself of the Skunkworks mantra: "Never replace, upgrade". To the forums!! I sourced an aftermarket up pipe... ...for peanuts, local sourced. That would get things moving, but I also had to address the turbo situation. Later cars came with TD05's which, although slightly bigger, had front entry and top entry options. Following a tentative few days awaiting a response to my wanted advert one cropped up in Falkirk. Result! Brought the haul back to base and started with the prep. All studs were replaced for new, the up pipe (due to proximity to the left back cams and total lack of heatsield due to aftermarket) was heat-wrapped... ...and the pipe was fitted. Yes, new MLS gaskets on both ends too. Up next, the TD05 was given a cursory inspection, found to have overly corroded and blocked water cooling pipes and subsequently stripped and cleared ...then fitted. You can see my pain with the top entry there. A front entry would be facing into the inlet manifold. On later models there is room to route induction under the manifold but my lump appears to be an earlier version... no room at all for that idea. Did it work? Pizza run to find out... Yup! Drove fine. Very different driving charqacteristics now. Boost comes on way higher up the rev range than before. It feels pretty savage too, and that is despite running on only 0.5Bar. I'll need to have a play with the actuator as i suspect its out of range and is causing a bit of boost loss. Will need to take the downpipe off anyway as the 3" gasket from downpipe to centre section crumbled and i only had a 2.5 to replace it with (gank) and I suspect there is a very minor leak on the turbo to downpipe gasket (wibblepoo quality). So we are good again. I took my newly found happiness as an opportunity to do some non essential upgrades / fixes. First up, the toally unsupportive stock leather seats. Why keep them when I have late spec niceness to go in? So much more supportive! Yes, there are 2 in there now. I just took the pic then for comparison. Passengers get in on the action too. So that left one last offending item to rectify. The standard tractor-style rubber-bellows gaiter. Off it came, and I got creative with an overly-bling chrome surround and a BMW E36 suede gaiter. The result was positive: I had just about enough energy to address one last niggle. Its not an Ubaru... Time to debadge... Ahh. OCD satisfied. Thats it for now, coming soon: New wheels, Big brakes, Custom intake system, Stereo upgrades. In other words, fun stuff.
