Really cool Disco. Crying out for a camper fitted on the flatbed! Rear overhang would be immense although I reckon I could get a 2 man tent on it Mounts are all 'in', just some gusseting and final welding to do, add tie downs and floor edge rails and a few brackets and such. really happy with how this is coming together. And lower the headboard top rail..

Samshing, often bobtail Discos look a little awkward but this looks spot on. The cab proportions look spot on. Love the little detail like the back doors to finish it off. Cheers. Leaving the full chassis and extending beyond the silhouette of the stock bodywork has really worked in its favour. It's almost a shame its a 100" wheelbase, ideally wants a bit more but nothing I can do about that. I think it looks pretty smart anyway.

If you want a little more you van buy an extender for the top axle ball joint and longer trailing arms. You would have to move the spring mounts and shocks but doable.

Plus it'll cost money I don't want to spend that I could spend on a new windscreen. But interesting to know its a thing you can do.

Saw this today and thought of you. Obviously was something at one point and now a something else. One thing it has over the Discovery though is this... A caravan tap (although not quite as fancy) in the middle of the roof. You may just be able to make it out against the trees but I'll try to get a better shot. Why? Anyone's guess!

Mr Rich, Have you considered pulling the top of the headboard in to match the body profile? In my mind it would look a little more appealing Have a cracking paint mock-up

It was probably an ambulance going off the high top roof what a spotter! 70 series Landcruiser Ambulance. I drove the Discovey when it was new. In a younger life I was TV news camera crew. We towed the mobile uplink dish with a Discovery. The camera crew travelled in a Courtaulds armoured Defender which we drove from the factory in Coventry down to Split, Croatia during the troubles around there in the mid 90s.

Been working in the middle east with 70 and 80 series Landcruisers for decades now. They curse word on Land Rovers although they do compact your spine offroad as the suspension has zero give

Haha! No worries. I'm not at all '4x4 elitist', there are way better trucks out there for many different roles. A discovery is perfect in this case as the bit I cut off was rusty and nasty I'd love a 'cruiser, just can't afford. Junky old rustbucket, now there's a different financial matter..

Crikey! Big busy weekend, lots done. Father thought that adding a full roof height bar would look good so we did, does look neat. Moved the beacon onto it, as it looks so much tidier. Started planking the bed too. Spare wheel carrier is back on and the headboard is also boarded. Also got a Discovery chequerplate bonnet panel for buttons. Not a fan of chequerplate but its useful for reinforcing the bonnet and protecting it when I dump the winch hook on it.
