Brings back some memories of my Banger racing days Look back now and think what a waste but in the days when I used to race the cars was sitting in gardens all over the place waiting to be picked up for £20 Had 20 P5's , P5b's Triumph 2000's and Daimler V8's sitting up the farm at one time just waiting to be raced The amount of cars we wrecked just getting them ready was shocking now, but then they were everyday motors

I haven't been to a normal banger meeting in years (though I did go to the Pre-'68 at Hednesford a couple of years ago), what do they use now?? Would have thought that whatever they use must be on carbs so must be pre-'92. At least there are no A60's in the above pics :-) , though I did spot a couple of Westies and an A50/A55. I'd like to bet that banger racing did for more Cambridges and Oxfords than rust. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Plenty of Rover P5's and P6's there. Whats the yank with no paint?
I have to say the names on the cars do make me laugh- its always the surname but with a 'Y' or 'O' on the end, lol!

I used to go to the Essex Arena, Wimbledon and Swaffham meets a few years back, always an interesting selection to watch and unfortunately always something rare but if you have the stomach to watch always great fun. I spot a couple of interesting japs, possibly a 810 wagon and a early seventies toymota Corona and CROWN. And who in their right mind chose to rag a Renault 12!!!
Cheers for the pics.

Events using older cars are pretty rare round here - it's pretty much "metro and the odd mini" Class and "anything bigger" usually converted to run a 2.0 pinto and a carb if it was injection originally
Thanks for sharing the pics

I had a look as some of the classic saloon stock cars last year...they are a spaceframe (alright, girder frame) loosely covered in exterior panels and lots of patch welding.
I don't mind banger racing as long as the stuff is legitimately acquired and anything special is offered out first.....I still have memories of the ruck on here last year......... you can't save everything.

The way i see it is if it's on i'm going to go and see what they are killing.
I think someone has already said but generaly they are so rotten they are beyond economical repair.
The wagon is indeed a Datsun 810
The Renault did suprisingly well
IIRC the yank was a Buick of sorts.

Staple diet for bangers nowadays is under 2000cc, cavaliers and bluebirds, unlimited cc mk2 granadas and Jags. Post 1992 cars do get raced, but need to be converted to carbs. Carbed cars are getting hard to find now, infact with the price of scrap all raceable cars are getting pricey. Used to get them for £0-£30 now its £90-£150+!
I know its not everyones cup of tea but banger racing is such good fun!! I think everyone should give it a go. Wrecking a mk3 Cavalier or mk2 Astra isnt so bad is it?

Surely its better for people to get some pleasure out of them first, not just the drivers but the spectators too!
