I had one as an everyday car - gorgeous. 2.2 auto with air con and no roof bars. Did about mid 20's to the gallon and went like stink. Only down side is they understear like a 'kin tanker - doesn't matter where you point that steering wheel, it's going straight on!
always wanted to take the badges off mine and fit Scirrocco Coleman Milne ones instead.
My dad had a saloon at the same time - his was an '86, my Avant a '90 - lots of differences but mostly it's in the door handles - they're smoother on the later ones and the dash is better too.
My dad traded his in after about 12 years of ownership and bought an A6 2.4 auto - he reckons the old car was better as it's only 3-speed auto, this one's 4-speed and it's continuously changing up and down - nowhere near as smooth.
Loads of potential and cheap too.
