......holidays. Due to Em not working and being on SMP, and babies being an unknown quantity as far as costs and such are concerned, and the fact I'm bleedin not taking a x month old baby on a 11 hour trans-atlantic flight it seems the K family will not be taking its usual Holiday In The Sun over the pond this year. So we started talkig abotu other destinatrions but sod me 2 weeks in Portugal in a decent holel or villa costs just as much as a razz to Kissimee in an owner-let house there. So cheaper than that please. And nowhere club18-30 goes. Some of these countries have rules about you murdering large groups of tourists. So we got talking about a caravan. So I started thinking, lets make this a right retro holiday. Strip back the BS and go for somethig old school. Before I O/D on Carry on Camping and Carry on Abroad and do somehting daft how about some suggestions for holidaying with a retro feel. 1. has to be baby friendly. 2. decent weather should be at least a possibility (ie not Scotland!) 3. cheap 4. able to get away from it all and relax. 5. "cheesy" factor. Caravan is an option, static or otherwise. Where do I find out about these? I presume you can rent camper vans too but not sure about that. Lets here those suggestions...

nothing wrong with scotland, go in july/august and you will fry just as much as you will in england.
i prefer a good british holiday, no/not many foreigners, english food, fantastic to wake up to a bacon buttie everyday for a couple of weeks. i like it up scarborough/filey/bridlington way. filey is really nice, housemate has a caravn 2 minute walk from the beach.
alternatives are places in the south west, newquay/cornwall etc. i believe its quite good down there.
for ultimate cheese you could go to blackpool/brighton.
how about ireland or scotland in a rented cottage?

We used to go stay in Cornwall a lot with some frineds but they've moved back up here. SO I don't fancy that one. We used to go to Whitby like twice a year so the NE coast we have done to death a bit. We did a nice cottage in Norfolk a while back but Em thinks we've "done" Norfolk. and it lacks a certain naffness. Something naff, but without the stench of puke you get in Blackpool...

You are from Nottingham, therefore proceed directly to Skeg, do not collect £200... We went the static caravan route - fairly cheap but not too 'roughing it' to make dealing with the twins a chore. In our case Anglesey, but only 'cos it's an 'Uncles' and was the price of a decent bottle of Scotch! The North Norfolk coast can be nice, and even has a bit of naffness ie Sheringham, or a trip down to Great Yarmouth... Credit to you for not being selfish and inflicting air travel on your child (plus yourselves and other passengers!) No they are out of nappies, we are planning to take our two camping shortly... probably just to Skeg

Ditto North Norfolk coast, Sherringham or Cromer, Cheese tastic loads of sites for staticks or tourers. Lots of Long shore drift action to excite the geography student in you to. Or Selsey Bill/Bracklesham Bay/West Wittering for trad caravanning fun. The Isle of Wight even although it can come accross as a local island for local people.
[nottrue]Bognor is lovely. Butlins is great. The locals never want to fight[/nottrue]

Went to Somerset last year - stayed in a static 'van in Burnham on Sea, and it was a great week! Did Clifton suspension bridge, Bristol, Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, Weston Super Mare (including the Lambretta Museum) and drank loads of cider. Top stuff! A bit cheesey for some I guess though! Do not go to blackpool its a complete curse word hole. I was shocked to find that Blackpool was, on the whole, as bad as I'd been lead to believe! Still, we stayed about 20 miles away (I think) in Longridge which was pretty much chav-free.

longridge is probs a bit less than 20, and yes thats the nice part of lancashire, most other places consist mainly of chavs, old punke rockers, illegal immmigrants and football hooligans, oh and the occasional hill

......holidays. Yeah and rest of Europe isn't much better either but at least I can drive there and for me the road trip element is a huge part of the early part of the year holiday What I used to feel guilty about is the fact that since 1985 I've never had a holiday in the south west of the UK - it's just so expensive and very poor value and to be honest you are treated like cash cows!!! So I no longer feel guilty..... So cheaper than that please. And nowhere club18-30 goes. Some of these countries have rules about you murdering large groups of tourists. PMSL at that thought So we got talking about a caravan. So I started thinking, lets make this a right retro holiday. Strip back the BS and go for somethig old school. I can understand that and with a new baby I'd want to keep it simple Before I O/D on Carry on Camping and Carry on Abroad and do somehting daft how about some suggestions for holidaying with a retro feel. 1. has to be baby friendly. 2. decent weather should be at least a possibility (ie not Scotland!) 3. cheap 4. able to get away from it all and relax. 5. "cheesy" factor. I'm really not sure how a 4 and 5 tie together? Caravan is an option, static or otherwise. Where do I find out about these? I presume you can rent camper vans too but not sure about that. Caravan club of GB??? We did a nice cottage in Norfolk a while back but Em thinks we've "done" Norfolk. Broads Boat is that an option? Maybe not!! If not - do Suffolk instead - Aldburgh Southwold Bungy Beccles Woodbridge Felixstowe and for the "cheese" factor Lowestoft and Clacton (OK so that's thin edge Suffolk but lets not quibble on details) Lets here those suggestions... If it was me I'd want a mobile home (on wheels) so I'd be looking at the hire of a motor home and the flexibility to move stop etc etc Slightly deviating from the topic of sorting your holiday We always discuss the late year holiday on the early year holiday so that's now in Cyprus We do a 7-9 day holiday in Europe normally in May and I like to drive it so we've done Italy, France, Belgium and Switzerland - I budget the same amount as Airline tickets for fuel so thats normally £350 and at a reasonable pace I can reckon I can get up to 1000 miles fom home and back inside the budget and with a map of UK and europe it puts an awfull lot of places in reach if you don't mind the travelling aspect which I don't. We normally go somewhere futher in November (normally USA) but it has to have a "NASCAR" content and that means we've done Miami twice now and I had this horible feeling that she was gonna say we've done Miami too many times (this would be a huge blow to me cos 24 looks good this year and if he holds it all together he could be in the final 10 nicely placed to win the championship so I'd like to be there for the last race at Miami (Homstead) - however she likes Nascar too so I was amazed when she suggested Flydrive Miami with a 4 day cruise to the bahamas and then back in time for the race on the sunday in the first weekend followed by a week visiting some of the places we really liked higher up the pan handle..... Result Anyway - Suffolk would be a good bet andI reckon there are enough people here to point you in the right direction
